He was born April 18, 1925 in Oil City, Pennsylvania, the son of John S. and Alta Cedell (Willey) Wright. He attended McKean and Erie Tech High Schools and was a WWII veteran of the United States Navy Air Force. He had a long career as a mechanical engineer. For many years John was an active member of Fairview United Methodist Church. In the 1960s, he served as an assistant pastor at Franklin Center Methodist Church. John was a passionate amateur archeologist, and also loved hunting, fishing, camping, and woodworking. He is survived by one son, Bruce E. Wright and companion Sharon Salhoff of Conneaut, Ohio, both of whom cared for John after he developed dementia in 2006. He is also survived by two daughters and sons-in-law, Nancy G. and Tom Burke of Coeur d' Alene, Idaho, and Janice E. Wright ! and Scott Holt of Forest Hills, N.Y.; seven grandchildren and one great-grandchild; and his former wife, Virginia (Meeker) Wright. He was preceded in death by his parents; his sister, Pearle Bretz Lapham; and his brother, Laine Wright. A graveside service will be held at a later date at the Mitchell Cemetery, Cambridge Springs.
