This is from the old Lincoln County, TN mail list: Subject: WAF: William Wofford, Lincoln Cy, TN Date: Sun, 20 Sep 1998 22:47:51 EDT From: LTC519@aol.com Reply-To: wafford-l@rootsquest.com To: wafford-l@usroots.com Can anyone fill in some background on this gentleman? William Wofford signed his will on 24 September 1853 in Lincoln Cy, TN. It was proven on 5 July 1858. William mentions his "present" wife, Judith, and a daughter, Lucy, who was married to George Mooney. In the usual, unclear, fashion, William also mentions a deceased son, Isaac, who was born in South Carolina "out of wedlock" to William's wife Judith, whose maiden name was Judith Wright. Isaac was "known in South Carolina as Isaac Wright, but was known in the State of Tennessee and in the State of Mississippi by Isaac Wofford." My interest is just William and his presence in Tennessee. I have an item showing William was already in Lincoln Cy as of October 1834 when he was witnessing a will. It sounds like William may be part of those Spartenburg, SC Woffords. Does he ring a bell with anyone? -----Original Message----- From: wright-bounces@rootsweb.com [mailto:wright-bounces@rootsweb.com] On Behalf Of Julia Molitz Sent: Monday, October 01, 2007 5:48 PM To: wright@rootsweb.com Subject: [WRIGHT] Judith, Susanna, Jacob VA, SC to Lincoln CO., TN JUDITH WRIGHT 1783 VA-1869 Lincoln CO., TN m WILLIAM WOFFORD 1773 SC-1858 Lincoln CO., TN Was Judith Wright related to: SUSANNA WRIGHT 1769 VA-? Julia: I found this today in the March 1990 issue of "Upper South Carolina Genealogy and History," a quarterly that was published by the Piedmong Historical Society. It is in an article entitled: Bastardy Processes for Spartanburg County:" State vs. William Wofford/Judah Wright. A bond was singed before William Smith, Justice of the Quorum, on Oct 4, 1804 by William Wofford, John Wofford Senior and James Wofford in the matter of Judah Wright who had given birth to an illegitimate male. There were two or three other entries for Woffords...they were surely well-represented in these records. I am really curious about your Judah and William. My Lawrence County Wrights lived in Spartanburg before 1824 and my Union County Wrights had Wofford connections. -----Original Message----- From: wright-bounces@rootsweb.com [mailto:wright-bounces@rootsweb.com] On Behalf Of Julia Molitz Sent: Monday, October 01, 2007 5:48 PM To: wright@rootsweb.com Subject: [WRIGHT] Judith, Susanna, Jacob VA, SC to Lincoln CO., TN JUDITH WRIGHT 1783 VA-1869 Lincoln CO., TN m WILLIAM WOFFORD 1773 SC-1858 Lincoln CO., TN Was Judith Wright related to: SUSANNA WRIGHT 1769 VA-?
