I have been researching our Wright family for about 40 years. The earliest WRIGHT found is Holden WRIGHT, born in (probably Essex County) New Jersey about 1792. He was found in Wilkinson County Mississippi where he bought public land in February 1822, and married Nancy GRIFFIN, in September of the same year. By 1827 they were in Terrebonne Parish, Louisiana where they stayed. They had several children, Nancy died in 1854 and Holden WRIGHT died in Aug. 1868. Holden WRIGHT had a brother named Moses. Moses was born in 1795. He married Hannah EDWARDS in Essex County, New Jersey. They raised their family and died in Essex Co. The father of Holden and Moses was still living in 1812. Moses enlisted and his father went to Newark and got him because he was underage. He probably enlisted sometime later because he applied for and received bounty land. By searching wills in Essex County New Jersey, I have found an aunt, Susanna WRIGHT, who apparently did not marry since she left everything to her nieces and nephews (the children of Moses WRIGHT). Also through wills and probates, I have eliminated: Mary Winterton WRIGHT, of Newark, will written 15 Nov. 1852 (when she was 61), proved 10 January 1856. She left everything to her mother, sister, and 3 brothers. John WRIGHT, of Orange, will written 1 May 1820, proved 10 June 1824. He left his homestead place to his daughter Betsey and her husband William P. Loviseal (?), to be left to their children at their deaths. The rest of the real estate was left to the other grandchildren (not named), in all cases the males shall have two shares and the females shall have one share.
