    2. This is a Message Board Post that is gatewayed to this mailing list. Author: MichaelCharlesWight Surnames: Classification: queries Message Board URL: http://boards.rootsweb.com/surnames.wright/6416.1.1.1.1.1/mb.ashx Message Board Post: A more usable site for looking at corallary lines (though there are some errors in the English side of the lineage) is www.footprints.org/9-100122.htm. This has a lineage chart from the earliest known Wright ancestor of the Wright Brother's line in England, which includes all of Bishop Milton Wright's children and some of the grandchildren as well. Only elder brothers Reuchlin and Lorin married and left descendants. Neither Wilbur nor Orville married and their little sister, Katharine, married so late in life that she never had any children. This is another huge descendant family in the US whose US record starts in 1639 in Springfield MA. From their descendants spread out to CT, ME, NH, & VT and NY before the RW. Some elements, including cousins of my line, went to Canada during the RW only to return and join their cousins who were making their way West through NY, OH, MI, and WI after the RW. There is some evidence that a certain few went south, possibly as far as Texas, but most of the Southern Wrights are descendants of other English Wright families, such as Richard Wright of Carolina and James Wright of Georgia, or Maryland Wrights, or Oyster Bay and Pennsylvania Wrights. It's a big problem figuring out connections in this maze of Wrights, particularly in the North from 1750 to 1825 because so many of them picked up and moved to the wilderness after the end of the French and Indian War. In many of these wilderness communities they never bothered to record vital statistics or they have been lost because they were kept in family bibles or in odds and ends of temporary church records serviced by itinerant preachers, who often took such records with them to be reposited who knows where. Fortunately, there are now scientific ways of getting around this lost records impasse. I advocate DNA testing for those who think they have a direct Wright male line descendant but can't find the paperwork to prove it. If the male descendant will have his Y chromosome tested by the Wright-DNA Surname Project (WRIGHT-DNA.ORG), you can compare the results with the existing database which will show you which of these many huge Wright lines you belong to. Knowing that will help you focus your paperwork research into a more fruitful direction. The truth is out there, but it isn't easy to find and with a surname like Wright (13th most popular in England in 1615) you need all the tools you can find. Hope this is of some help. 3. Reading these messages have got my curiosity up.. I must dig through my mothers things.. My Wrights that I know are from Oswego County New York.. but I do know that family settled all over the USA.... back oh maybe 25 years ago.. a well off distant Wright cousin died in Indiana and having no immediate next of kin.. the lawyers had to trace her family line for relatives.. which they did to 1600's...I have this results of this professional search... I am going to have to hunt in my mothers things in my shed.. the copy is out there among her items..might possibly help someone .. I have not been working on my Wright side of my family yet..I have lots of photos, etc. (all packed of course in my late mother's things..) and luckly my great grandmother wrote on alot of these old photos..maybe after holidays.. I'll get out there.. and be able to share what I have..
