It helped clarify a mistaken listing on the 1870 Buckingham Census. This Thomas Jackson Wright was listed as John Wright in the James Wright household in the 1870 Buckingham Census. His name was probably given to the census taker as Jack, short for Jackson, and then the census taker listed him as John, thinking Jack was a nickname for John. The 1880 Buckingham Census listed James Wright as Jeame A. Wright and then his son Thomas Jackson Wright was listed as Jackson Wright with the appropriate age that John of the 1870 Census would have had by 1880, that is, 14 years of age. The death record makes clear that Thomas Jackson Wright was a son of James A. Wright and Elizabeth (Huddleston) Wright. My records identify James A. Wright as the son of William Wright (Buckingham County) and Sally (_____) Wright. I think William Wright (Buckingham County) was the son of 1803 (year of death) John Wright of Cumberland County, Virginia, (place of death) and Nancy (_____) (Wright) Dodson. The evidence is circumstantial only at this point and is as follows. First, 1803 John Wright of Cumberland County had a son William Wright who is otherwise as this point unidentified. Second, the land of William Wright (Buckingham County) was on Buffalo Creek which crosses from Buckingham County to Cumberland County indicating that William Wright (Buckingham County) lived close enough to Cumberland County to be associated with a family from that county. Third, 1803 John Wright of Cumberland County had a son 1815 Saymer Wright of Cumberland County and William Wright (Buckingham County) probably had a son Seymore Wright. Such a name is uncommon enough that it suggests a family connection with William Wright (Buckingham County) naming one of his sons for his deceased brother. Fourth, the settlement of the estate of 1803 John Wright in 1806 at Cumberland County, Virginia, W.B. 4/26 allocated 50 acres of land to William Wright, which he sold in 1812 by Cumberland County, Virginia, Deed 12/165. William Wright (Buckingham County) first acquired! land in Buckingham County in about 1824 or 1825. Thus William Wright, the son of 1803 John Wright, and William Wright (Buckingham County) are chronologically consistent in their records. However, further research will be required to confirm this identification. 1803 John Wright of Cumberland County was the son of 1770 John Wright of Cumberland County and the grandson 1769 George Wright of Essex County. I would be interested in exchanging information on this Wright line with anyone researching this family. Robert N.
