The 1840 Census for Nelson County, Virginia, does not list a James Wright household. The marriage record of James Wright and Elizabeth M. Campbell was dated on December 31, 1842, at Nelson County, Virginia, and listed the following information for the parties: "No. Date of License: December 31, 1842 Name of Husband: James Wright Name of Wife: Elizabeth M. Campbell Surety: Samuel Campbell" James Wright first appears in the 1844 Personal Property Tax List for Nelson County, Virginia, with one horse and was so listed each year until 1849 when he was listed with two horses. He was not found on the 1850 Personal Property Tax List. The 1850 Census for Nelson County, Virginia, listed James Wright with the following household on October 19, 1850: Value of Name Age Sex Color Occupation Real Estate James Wright 44 M Farmer Elizabeth Wright32 F Ellison Wright 4 M Samuel Wright 3 M Preston Wright 2 M George Wright 3/12 M Married Attended Cannot Deaf Dumb Place of Within School Read & Blind Birth Year Within Year Write Insane etc. Virginia Virginia Virginia Virginia Virginia Virginia This record indicates that James Wright was born in about 1806 and that Elizabeth M. (Campbell) Wright was born in about 1818. The birth records in Nelson County, Virginia, begin in 1853 and do not list the birth of any of the children of James Wright and Elizabeth M. (Campbell) Wright. The 1860 Census for Nelson County, Virginia, did not list this James Wright household.
