The obituary gives his birth date as 21 Sep 1869, but I have other sources that say 1866. I'm looking for anyone else researching this line, particularly his parents, Dr. Laban Allison Wright and Elizabeth Smith, of Bamberg, SC. *** Wright Services Conducted Here Died Saturday Afternoon at Local Infirmary; Was One of City's Best Known Citizens [photo: Mr. W. Wright] Funeral services for Mr. William Russell Wright, 415 Greene Street, who died Saturday afternoon at a local infirmary, were arranged Monday at Grealish, Poteet and Walker Funeral Home, with the Rev. C. L. Middlebrooks, pastor of St. James Methodist Church, officiating, interment following in Westover Memorial Park. Active pallbearers: A. R. Johnson, T. W. Lawson, W. M. Kelly, T. J. Rampley, W. J. Thompson and John Wilson. Honorary: C. F. Stavro, J. J. Nowell, J. C. Cason, Dr. Edward Clark, Fred Gherken, Sr., Henry D. Rhodes, Sr., J. O. Weltch, Dr. G. W. Shackleford, Arnold Sancken and Dr. M. P. Agee. Mr. Wright, a native of Bamberg, S. C., had resided in Augusta for the past 22 years and during that time had been employed as conductor by the Pullman Company, running to Florence. Before coming here he was for 10 years a captain in the National Guard Unit of Bamberg. He was a Spanish-American War veteran and a member of the Masons. During the war his company was commanded by Claude E. Sawyer. He is survived by his wife, Mrs. Alice Cathcart Wright; two daughters, Mrs. B. M. Rhodes, of Augusta; and Mrs. B. F. Hill, of Manning, S. C; one brother, Harry A. Wright, Orangeburg, S. C.; one sister, Mrs. J. Courtney Ray, of Denmark, S. C.; three grandsons; two granddaughters one nephew and two nieces. Captain William Russel Wright was born in Bamberg, S. C., September 21, 1869, son of Dr. Allison Wright and Elizabeth Smith Wright. He married Miss Alice Cathcart in youth. They were married 47 years at his death. Twenty-one years ago he came to Augusta from Bamberg. Mr. Wright was a Southern gentleman of the old school. Aristocratic in breeding and manner, in appearance striking and kindly, his conduct was such as to make him one of the most esteemed men of Augusta. His death is universally mourned.
