Are there service records in existence from the French and Indian War? The reference I received actually refers to the French War, in case that's something different. I'm looking for info on a James Wright (could it be a more common name, please?). Of course looking for parents and other family references. And just in case anyone has access, he was born about 1733, d. Sept. 9, 1803; buried in Dutchess Co., NY. Married to Sarah (Purdy) Wright, and who was the daughter of Ebenezer and Mary (June) Purdy Tom Wright
Hello Tom, You need to check with the State Archives that the person served in. It would be a Colonial record not a Federal record. Orderly books often have muster rolls, accounts of skirmishes and the like. Doesn't get you to James Wrights family information right away, but might help you flesh out details that will help get other sources. I've research pensions for the American Revolution for an ancestor of mine and have a dim recollection that there is pension data available somewhere for the French and Indian War, which was also known as the French War, the Late French War and, in Europe the Seven Years War. The New England Historical & Genealogical Society's online database is where I found the AmRev pensions; that's probably where I saw some F&I information. Hope this helps, Mike
