Regarding the probability that there were German Wrights who came to America, it is certainly possible that a Wright from England went to Germany in the way-back-when days, probably as a merchant rep., and never came home, thus setting up a family of Wright descendants in Germany who, after three or four generations, were as German as anyone else there. I do know there were Wrights who were born and raised in England in the 1600's who were involved in the woolen trade and made many trips to Flanders, Germany, Italy and France but I have never tried to track them to see if they all came home to die. I know for sure one of them didn't because he is my ancestor's brother, Nathaniel Wright. We can not find that he ever returned from his last overseas trip in about 1639. In fact, we can't figure out where he was headed, exactly. We know it was not New England or Barbados because those were not the ship's itinerary he embarked on, but somewhere in Europe where the ship made a number of stops in-route to Rome. There is no obvious reason he shouldn't have returned; he left a wife and 8 grown children behind in England, but he (and his eldest son) are the only ones missing from the family graveyard at Bishopgate. We found his eldest son buried at another parish church where that son was a rector, but no Nathaniel there either. ! He just disappeared over the sea and never returned with the ship. I know there are probably many other stories like that, but I have never given them very much thought until your husband's claims to be a Wright from Germany. It will be interesting indeed to see what the Y-DNA tells us. Take care and good luck. Mike Wright Important Note: The author of this message may not be subscribed to this list.
