Rich, I would like to encourage you and everyone else on the list to consider using Y-DNA sequencing in the appropriate circumstances. My experience has been that it is enormously helpful in sorting out relationships and, because of the burned records status of many counties, may be the only means in some cases of identifying family connections. The Wright DNA Project at http://www.wright-dna.org/ has listings of participants and often the line of descent from the oldest known ancestor to the current participant. Jeff Wright has done an outstanding job of constructing such ancestral charts when the information is available. Examples of the powerful impact that this tool can have include the following: 1. Connecting the families of 1767 Francis Wright of Amherst County, VA, and John Wright (Goochland County, VA, Carpenter), 2. Identifying 1809 William Wright of Franklin County, VA, as the son of 1792 John Wright of Fauquier County, VA, and 3. Identifying 1792 John Wright of Fauquier County, VA, as not the son of 1729/30 John Wright of Stafford County, VA. There are other examples of finding changed surnames and illegitimate births as well. So this is a powerful tool and well worth the cost in the right circumstances. Best wishes, Robert N.
