I have been reading the emails about DAR. As a long time DAR member, I want to expound on the websites. DAR has two websites. One is for the public and one is for the members only. There are those who will help you with finding patriots that have already been proven. That means that IF your person you are researching is already verified by DAR, then you can order an application copy that may help you with your research. Sometimes that is VERY helpful, and sometimes it may not be. That focuses on "how many" have that name. An example: John Smith from Virginia.. Is he yours? (I have one of those).. and believe me DAR has many. One I'm dealing with right now is WILLIAM ALEXANDER.. They have more or less frozen all of those and asking for better documentation. I have a supplemental on RICHARD WRIGHT, Sr. from NC and his eldest son, BENJAMIN WRIGHT, Sr. of NC>IN. My Benjamin was held up for a time due to his wife's name being proven.. so many things can transpire. Another example is my JESSE MAUPIN. They have come back to me and asked for better information as the person who first submitted him (and got approved) used info they now think isn't satisfactory. His father DANIEL is approved on my line, as is his son MOSIAS ... So you see many things can happen... I am happy to do DAR lookups on the WRIGHT lines as I have access to the members list.
