You are definitely have a wealth of knowledge about the Wright family. I am jealous you have so much great information about them. You were correct in your assumptions that my surname is not Wright. And I did misunderstand my results in that my father's side carries the E1b1b1a2 line, where the Wrights I have traced back in my lineage are in my mother's side. Perhaps that's a coincidence, perhaps they're related distantly. My father is of Italian American descent, so I assume it is possible he carried the same Roman DNA that was through your Wright family that ended up in England. As I am new to the DNA and it's analysis for genealogy, I am not sure how to read the TIP reports. I plan on browsing your wright-dna.org links page for some more information about that and maybe some links to find out more about my family. If you have any more information, tips or tricks about how to track the E1b1b1a2 and possibly the J1c3 line, I'd be interested in hearing what you have to say. Thanks again for your time. Author: MichaelWright12 Surnames: Classification: queries Message Board URL: http://boards.rootsweb.com/surnames.wright/15859.1.1.1.1/mb.ashx Message Board Post: Hi Patrick, Before I can address your questions I need some clarification of the information you provided. Am I correct in assuming that it is you who are E1b1b1a2 and not someone else in your family? Am I also correct in assuming that your surname is not WRIGHT? If my two assumptions above are correct, then we would need to take a look at the actual STR values of your Y-DNA profile (TIP report) to see how closely related we might, or might not be. We do have other surnames that are related to our WRIGHT E1b1b1a2 line, including FRENCH, MEEKING, CHAPMAN, RYANS, GYöRFI and LASLEY. Of those, only the FRENCH surname is closely enough related to indicate that two related men may have been given different surnames in the Doomsday roles of William the Conqueror, or that sometime after that, a WRIGHT male child was adopted into a FRENCH surname household at least 20-some generations ago. The other surnames in the above list are very distantly related to us in a manner similar to the GYöRFI surname. The most recent common ancestor between our WRIGHT line and the GYöRFI line is over 70 generations ago which puts it in a timeframe somewhere around the birth of Christ. Our ancestors were, at that time, of the same Thracian/Illyrian tribe in ! the Balkans. This tribe was broken up after it was finally subdued by the Romans in 49 A.D. Our Wright ancestor was recruited/conscripted into the Roman army and ended up in England. The GYöRFI ancestor lit out for the Ural Mountains to get away from the Romans and ended up in Eastern Hungary..one of the Hungarian cowboys of the late 19th Century. 70 generations later these two lines of men meet each other again on the Internet through the shared genetic profile of their descendant's 25 marker Y-DNA. On a personal note, my family is going to attend his youngest daughter's wedding this July 14th in Slovenia. This will be our second visit with them. He and I plan someday to travel together to our mother land in the Drin River valley of Kosovo. We want to meet the people of our Tribe who stayed there to this day. If your surname is not WRIGHT, it is certain that your E1b1b1a2 haploid did not come to you via your 2nd great grandmother Mary Anne Wright because Y-DNA is inherited only from one male to another. Only the sons of a man carry on his Y-DNA profile. This means that you inherited your E1b1b1a2 genetic profile from your father, and he from his father, and his paternal grandfather on back in a strictly male line. By comparing TIP reports for our WRIGHT E1b1b1a2 with your E1b1b1a2 profile we can see how many generations removed we might be. It could be your father descended from a fellow Dardanian tribesman that was conscripted into the Roman Army right along with my father's ancestor. We certainly have TIP reports that give the various probabilities for everything from true brother relationships as well as such distant 70 generation relationships, all with real documentation to support it! As to the Wright Brothers question, it is true that Orville and Wilbur Wright were, like me, descendants of the Kelvedon Hatch Wright family. I am a 12th cousin twice removed to Orville and Wilbur. Our most recent common ancestor was Deacon Samuel Wright (1606 - 1665) of Springfield and Northampton, MA. I descend from his eldest son, Samuel (?? - 1675) and the Wright Brothers descended from the Deacon's second to youngest son, James Wright (1639 - 1725). I do not have a Mary Ann Wright m. Lachlan Grant in my database, but my database is weak in the area of those Wrights who left for Canada during the Revolutionary War or imigrated there directly from England. Even for my own family group, my Canadian data is weak. The second son of Charles Wright of Pownal Vermont (1718 - 1793), Samuel Wright, was a reknowed Indian fighter and soldier from the French and Indian War days and started out shoulder to shoulder with his father on the Patriot side of the Revolutionary War conflict attending the Dorsett Convention in Vermont and participating in the early exploits of the Green Mountain Boys, but in the dark days of 1777/78 he foresook the Patriot cause and switched sides. He gave up his farm in Pownal, VT and took his family to Canada in early 1778. The family stayed in Canada for a generation and then members began to return to the US through Michigan and into Ohio after the War of 1812. Some of their descendants are included i! n our Y-DNA database at www.wright-dna.org. We have an excellent Y-DNA database with nearly 20 participants who are members of this Kelvedon Hatch WRIGHT lineage, in addition to the other surnames that are associated with ours. Please feel free to examine our profiles at www.wright-dna.org under the "All other Results" tab in the upper left hand corner of the home web page. So those are some of my thoughts concerning you post. I would be glad to continue the conversation if you have further comments to add. It is much appreciated. I am trying to find where the Wright family is connected to my Wright family in N.C. area. My great great grandmother always told family that she was a cousin of Orville and Wilbur Wright. That a sibling of her father's or grandfathers married a sibling of either Milton's, Dan Sr's or Dan Jr's. Her name was Charity Ann Wright, b.abt.1843 N.C. She married Edward Robert Newell who was born 1863 in Cumberland county, N.C. She always said that the Wright brothers always stayed at her parents home when they were in N.C. Yet, I can't seem to find a connection. It makes me wonder. LOL I know how some of these family stories go from working on my family genealogy for awhile. Sometimes when you finally clear up a mystery, it turns out to be partially true, just not the way it is by the time it gets handed down generations later. Yet you can see and understand how the story originated in the first place. Anyway, there is a photo of my ! gggrandmother in the family that has her handwritten note on the back that says she is Charity Wright, cousin of the Wright brothers. I thought I would try one more time to find a connection. Thanks again for the information on siblings. Important Note: The author of this message may not be subscribed to this list. Still looking for family of George Wright b. abt 1790 in the Boston area of Massachusetts. By 1814 he is in Philadelphia working as a ship carpenter. I don't know if he was possibly from a family of ship carpenters in Mass. & I haven't found a connection to any Wrights in Philadelphia at that time. George's father is said to have been in the Rev.
