    2. This is a Message Board Post that is gatewayed to this mailing list. Author: bobmclaren1 Surnames: Wright, Vasey, Weasey Classification: queries Message Board URL: http://boards.rootsweb.com/surnames.wright/5311.1.2.1.1.1/mb.ashx Message Board Post: Carol, SOrry for the misunderstanding. As for the DNA test, your brother likely tested with Ancestry.com. This means that he was not compared to a much larger database, including many Wrights. So, I would not take the matches as very reliable. The only adivce I can give since I don't have all the details of what reseach you have done is for you to collect all information from Bucks County dealing with Wrights and Vaseys. Then try to put them together in family groups, looking for that Wright-Vasey connection. I agree with your suspicion that a connection existed between Stephen Wright and John Weasey, but it does need to be proven. Best of luck. 2. This is a Message Board Post that is gatewayed to this mailing list. Author: cvthompson Surnames: Classification: queries Message Board URL: http://boards.rootsweb.com/surnames.wright/5311.1.2.1.1/mb.ashx Message Board Post: I am judging by your response that I did not make myself very clear, and for that I apologize. Please let me try to clarify: My family surname is not Wright, but Vasey. Our Revolutionary War ancestor John Weasey (1764-1835) lived in Bucks county: I know for a fact that he lived in Wrightstown as a teenager (attested to by Joseph Sackett in the pension application of John Weasey) and that he lived in Falls from about 1810 on and died in 1835 in the home of Stephen Wright. He had been a weaver by trade. His wife was likely deceased shortly after he filed for his pension: in the application he described her as sickly. Her name may likely have been Susannah, based upon the alms house records viewed at the Spruance Library. I am trying to determine if there was a family connection of some sort Between John Weasey and Stephen Wright, perhaps by marriage. In addition to the possibility that his wife might have been a Wright, there was a marriage between Charlotte Varsey and David Wright in 1796. So, indirectly, I am also trying to determine if there was a family connection between John Weasey/W! easy/Wazy/etc. and Charolette Varsey. Most particularly I am curious as to why John Weasey was taken into the home of Stephen Wright, who also posted an obituary for him in the Bucks County Intelligencer. I only mentioned the Weaver connection through yDNA because I noted that others on this BB noted Weaver connections. The test had 46 markers. Thanks for your patience. I would be interested in any suggestions you might offer. Carol Important Note: The author of this message may not be subscribed to this list. 2. This is a Message Board Post that is gatewayed to this mailing list. Author: bobmclaren1 Surnames: Wright, MacLaren Classification: queries Message Board URL: http://boards.rootsweb.com/surnames.wright/5311.1.2.1/mb.ashx Message Board Post: Carol, Unfortunately, Y-DNA tests cannot show such a precise measure such as they show a match within 11 generations. What is really being said is that there is a certain probability that a common ancestor exists within 11 generations. In most cases where I see this statement, the probability is much less than 99%. So, the statement does not truly cover all the probabilities. Additonally, it depends upon how many markers were tested. These statements are next to useless for tests of 12 and 25 markers. It is far better to have a 67-marker test. I take it that your brother's surname is Wright. If this is the case, I will be glad to take a look and see what the matching really is and give my advice. To do this, have your brother join the Clan MacLaren Surname DNA Project (Wright can be a Clan surname). To join, go to his personal page at Family Tree DNA. At the top left on this page is a join projects link. Click on this link and you will go to a page that lists projects. One of these will be MacLaren. Click on MacLaren and you will go to a page that describes the Clan MacLaren Surname DNA Project. At the bottom of this page is a join button. Click on this and you have joined. If he joins, and I hope he does, can you send me a copy of his Wright genealogy? If you have it in a computer genealogy program, a GEDCOM would be great. If not, any format will work. DNA does not stand alone, genealogies have to be used in any analysis. If you have any questions, please contact me directly at bobmclaren@earthlink.net. Yours aye, Bob McLaren Genealogist, Clan MacLaren Society (based in Scotland) Chairman, Genealogy Committee, Clan MacLaren Society of North America Administrator, Clan MacLaren Surname DNA Project (Worldwide) p.s. This offer is open to any Wrights who have tested and are not yet a member of the MacLaren Surname DNA Project. Important Note: The author of this message may not be subscribed to this list. The couple was from Falls Township, Bucks. My Revolutionary ancestor John Weasey died in the home of Stephen Wright of Falls Twp. in 1835, and I'm trying to make a connection, if there is one. My brother's yDNA test is a match for two individuals named Weaver within 11 generations: I've gone back eight. I believe Stephen Wright was the son of John Wright and Jane Swift.
