Author: rainybeach Surnames: Patterson Paterson Wright Classification: queries Message Board URL: http://boards.rootsweb.com/surnames.wright/17178/mb.ashx Message Board Post: I am trying to prove my great grandfather and he may have married young to a Rebecca Patterson who died at age 20. Here's alot of info we found: What I know about Rebecca Patterson ..... she is buried at the Patterson Cemetery, Jersey Township, Licking Co., OH with other family members. She is wife of Samuel Wright and she died on May 12, 1855 @ age 20 years and 11 months and 7 days. Her baby was Olive Wright daughter of Samuel Wright and R. Wright, and baby Olive died at age 10 months on June 2, 1854. Rebecca is buried with her sister Catherine Patterson, who died at age 33 on June 8, 1870. Looks like she never married. And there is another sister, Margaret also dau of Elisha and Mary Patterson and this Margaret dies young too at age 14, on November 19, 1853. These three women are all also buried with their parents.... Elisha Patterson, their father, who died at age 50 on May 3, 1861 and their mother lives the longest to age 74, she died on October 19, 1887. Then there is also another Mary Patterson, listed as wife of Peter Patterson this Mary dies at age 60 on June 25, 1852. The Patterson's in this cemetery, some with photos of stones can be looked at this site: http://www.usgwarchives.net/oh/tombpics/licking/jerseytwp/pattersoncem/pattersoncem.htm This is a small cemetery and there are a few other surnames which may be collateral including: Hill, Priest, George, Fowler, Aubert, and Disbennet. Okay so why am I posting this....? Well I have been searching for my great grandfather (the LAST one to find) for years and years, since 1995 at least. His name is Samuel Wright. He is listed on one document as being 'from Licking Co., OH' his birthplace is listed in other docs as New York. This Samuel disappears from Licking Co. after the death of his very young wife and baby. This Samuel Wright, widower, is the exact right age to be MY Samuel, being born 1832-3. My Samuel Wright shows up in Solano Co. CA in 1860 as a gold miner, then goes on to remarry, have children, become a blacksmith in Butte County, CA and dies young at age 48. My question: Does anyone research these Patterson's in Licking Co., OH? May we compare notes? In my opinion I am thinking this is quite possibly my Samuel Wright, NOTHING doesn't fit. I just need another piece of the puzzle to prove it. Important Note: The author of this message may not be subscribed to this list. The earliest census record I have is 1900 Henderson County, Tennessee. He lived in that area that bordered Chester, Henderson, Hardin and McNairy County. One of his sons filed a delayed birth record and his father is listed as born Lawrence County- so this is my first lead as to where in Tennessee James or Jesse Warren Wright is from. I didn't locate him in 1869-1880 in this area of Tennessee or Northern Alabama. I appreciate any suggestions. Important Note: The author of this message may not be subscribed to this list. Author: jamesmgray1 Surnames: WRIGHT Classification: queries Message Board URL: http://boards.rootsweb.com/surnames.wright/17174/mb.ashx Message Board Post: I have been working with the Lake Terrace Cemetery in Mt Gambier to acquire a free bronze memorial plaque from the American Veterans Administration for Mr. Richard W. Wright, a South Australia Australian American Civil War veteran, whose gravesite remains unmarked; but after 10 years the American Veterans Administration in the United States have "changed" the rules. They will no longer accept a request from a cemetery, but 'now' demand acknowledgement from a descendant to act on their behalf. South Australian veteran Richard W. Wright was born in the parish of Boxley, Maidstone, Kent England in 1833, migrated to the United States, officially enlisted on September 5, 1864 for a period of one year as a Corporal in the U. S. Marine Corps, which served aboard Navy ships, was discharged on September 16, 1865 and migrated to South Australia where he became an Australian. Richard Wright died at 79 years of age on a Friday, September 6, 1912 and was buried in Section B plot 121, also in the Lake Terrace Cemetery in Mt Gambier; without a headstone. Richard Wright was survived by his two sons, Mr. Joseph Wright who was the Librarian of the Mount Gambier Institute and Mr. James R. Wright of Mount Gambier. Joseph Wright, his son, aged 83, died on 16 November 1940 at Kent Town in a hospital. He lived at Newstead, which was an Adelaide suburb. There was also a Joseph, aged 24, son of Richard Wright, who on 20 December 1881 married Alice Jane Carr at Christ Church, Mount Barker. Although he was born in 1857 also, we cannot know if he was the same man as the one found in the SA deaths database. If anyone knows of "any" descendant of Mr. Richard W. Wright they are asked to please contact James Gray immediately; at jamesmgray@bigpond.com, phone 07 3801 3400 or by post at 11 Corndale Street, Loganholme, Qld., Au., 4129. If you can find one of his descendants, we can move forward with acquiring a free marker for this Australian veterans gravesite. Sincerely, James M. Gray, Cmdr.
