Author: mistamar2u Surnames: WRIGHT, DAVIS, JENNINGS, MASSIE Classification: queries Message Board URL: http://boards.rootsweb.com/surnames.wright/17190.1/mb.ashx Message Board Post: John R. Wright was a brother to my William Norcross Wright. You mentioned John R. Wright as a possible son and I am wondering if perhaps you are chasing the wrong Wright family? Where is the information that you stated that Sarah M. Wright Davis was married to a Massie/Massey? Earlier in Rockbridge Co. there were members of Massie/Massey's family married into another Wright family of Rockbridge Co. and I wonder if perhaps that should be your pursuit. Regardless, Robert Grant will get back with you on where he found his information and if he doesn't I suggest you email him. As this is the only post I see that you have done at Rootsweb, I wonder if you are fairly new to your genealogy quest. I do have the information that Mr. Grant submitted to this forum but have not followed through on this particular brother and I take Mr. Grant's accumulated information on John R. Wright, brother to my ancestor. Also, I believe Mr. Grant has published a book as of late regarding all the Wright's of Rockbridge Co. I would like to know where you found your information regarding the Massie name that you stated. It's obvious to me that Sarah Wright Davis Jennings cannot be found in the 1910 census or at least I have not found her nor her children. Can you shed light on this? Sincerely Tamara Mitchell Important Note: The author of this message may not be subscribed to this list. 2. This is a Message Board Post that is gatewayed to this mailing list. Author: jmoore6954 Surnames: Classification: queries Message Board URL: http://boards.rootsweb.com/surnames.wright/17190/mb.ashx Message Board Post: I saw the post here by Mr. Grant which links John R. Wright to Thompson A. WRight and Sarah Norcross. The Obituary information is correct in all regards to my knowledge. The Sarah mentioned is Sarah Jennings, but had been Sarah Massie Wright and previously Sarah Davis, then returned home, widowed, with her 3 children (Effice Carrie M, and Charlie) at the 1900 census. She remarried a Jennings, then is unmarried in 1920, but living with boarders and Effie who is married (previously the elder John Wright took in boarders, I believe in the same place, also, as reflected in the census material) I am now trying to find Mr. Grant's source material for this link. Can anyone help? The obituary must exist--- as the change to Jennings makes sense for Sarah Massie (his daughter) who survives him. Thanks Important Note: The author of this message may not be subscribed to this list. If you would like to reply to them, please click on the Message Board URL link above and respond on the board.

    2. This is a Message Board Post that is gatewayed to this mailing list. Author: bobmclaren1 Surnames: Wright, MacLaren Classification: queries Message Board URL: http://boards.rootsweb.com/surnames.wright/17184.1.1.2/mb.ashx Message Board Post: I see that Robert Grant answered many of your questions. He pointed you to the Wright Surname DNA Project (uses Family Tree DNA). There is also another project, the Clan MacLaren Surname DNA Project, that also has Wrights (Wright can be a Clan surname). Most of the Wrights in my project are also in the Wright DNA Project. So, once you join the Wright DNA project, I invite you to join the MacLaren DNA Project as an additional project. There is no extra cost to do this. As for the costs, I cannot give costs on this RootsWeb list. If you want, contact me a bobmclaren@earthlink.net and I will give you the costs involved. Like Robert, I feel the the costs are well worth it. You have several choices on how many markers to get (with each level of testing at different costs). The choices are 12, 25, 37, 67, and 111 markers. I recommend the 67-marker test as the best value. The 12- and 25-marker tests are inadequate for genealogical purposes. Also, be sure that you sign up with a surname DNA project like the Wright DNA Project. Otherwise you will pay more since there is a discount for testing through a surname DNA project. Yours aye, Bob McLaren Genealogist, Clan MacLaren Society (based in Scotland) Chairman, Genealogy Committee, Clan MacLaren Society of North America Administrator, Clan MacLaren Surname DNA Project (Worldwide) Important Note: The author of this message may not be subscribed to this list. Author: rngrant Surnames: WRIGHT Classification: queries Message Board URL: http://boards.rootsweb.com/surnames.wright/17184.1.1.1/mb.ashx Message Board Post: Andrea, Delighted the information was of help. If you will send me your email address privately, I can send you what I have collected on your line. The Wright DNA Project is at http://www.wright-dna.org/. The descendants of 1769 George Wright of Essex County, VA, are listed under Haplogroup J2 at http://www.wright-dna.org/dna/OtherResults.html. Scroll down to 1769 George and you will see the sequences of the participants. The descendant of your James A. Wright must be a male surnamed Wright who descends in the male line only. The Y-DNA passes only from father to son. Family Tree DNA is the organizing company and I believe they use the University of Arizona for the sequencing. Their site is at http://www.familytreedna.com/ The testing takes only a cheek swab. There is a fee and it is not cheap, but in my experience the cost has been more than worthwhile. Contact Linda Magellan, the site administrator, at coordinator@wright-dna.org and she will answer any questions you may have and get a kit sent to you or the participant. Best wishes, Robert N.
