Mickey, I do not know much about Judith Wright Wofford other than the b. bonds and will. William Wofford is on the 1850 Lincon CO., TN census but the name is spelled WARFORD. William is 77 from SC, Judy (Judith) is 67 VA. Their dau Lucy age 27 from SC is living with them as is her husband Geo.W. or P. MOONEY age 26 born in TN. Geo and Lucy married 28 Feb 1849 Lincoln CO., TN. We know that William Wofford was in Linc. CO by 1828 for he and his son Isaac are buying land. I do not find William Wofford on the membership list for the Mt Carmel Primitive Baptist Church but his wife Judith Wright Wofford was a member as was Jacob Wright his wife Nancy McMillin/McMullin Wright, Susannah Wright Jones and her husband Joseph Jones. We call this above Jacob Wright "Old Jacob" for there where several Jacob's in Linc CO. Lot is known about Old Jacob after he arrived in Linc. CO. He was one of the first settlers of Linc. CO. He was very rich with lots of land. A good deal of his records are on file at the Nashville Library and Archives. My internet friend and researcher Wanda, who is a descendant of Old Jacob, has never been able to find out who his parents where. I do believe that Judith Wright Wofford, Susannah Wright Jones and Old Jacob Wright could have been siblings. There was a Dennis Wright in Linc CO by 1820. Some researchers believe he may have been an Uncle to Old Jacob. Others on the 1820 Lincoln CO., TN census the first census for Lincoln were: ANDREW C. WRIGHT (nothing is known on him) BENJAMIN WRIGHT (we know a lot on his 3 sons but cannot identify all of his 7 dau's) ELIJAH WRIGHT (Elijah bought and sold land in the town of Petersburg, in Linc CO., TN in the early 1800's) OLD JACOB WRIGHT JACOB WRIGHT (old Jacob had a Jr. but we do not believe this is his son but another Jacob) SOLOMON WRIGHT (believed to be my line) DENNIS WRIGHT (Dennis & his wife were up in age on the 1820 census, no children. We know that Dennis was in Spotsylvania CO., VA at one time) Mickey, you say P. M Wright's 2nd wifes name was MARTHA VOSS and they married 10 Oct 1853 in Lawrence CO., TN. Do you have anything on her family? Did you or are you going to write your family history for the Lawrence CO., TN Family History Book? I would like to get Wanda in on our conversation for she knows more on Old Jacob and what she has found out. Can I write to you off the list? The Hamilton family is Henry George Wright probably born sometime around 1840s - 60s in Ontario. He married a Kate Craig and had at least 2 sons George (b. 1891) and Harry (b. 1895) who were born in Hamilton and served in the militia there during WW I. Julia: I found this today in the March 1990 issue of "Upper South Carolina Genealogy and History," a quarterly that was published by the Piedmong Historical Society. It is in an article entitled: Bastardy Processes for Spartanburg County:" State vs. William Wofford/Judah Wright. A bond was singed before William Smith, Justice of the Quorum, on Oct 4, 1804 by William Wofford, John Wofford Senior and James Wofford in the matter of Judah Wright who had given birth to an illegitimate male. There were two or three other entries for Woffords...they were surely well-represented in these records. I am really curious about your Judah and William. My Lawrence County Wrights lived in Spartanburg before 1824 and my Union County Wrights had Wofford connections. -----Original Message----- From: wright-bounces@rootsweb.com [mailto:wright-bounces@rootsweb.com] On Behalf Of Julia Molitz Sent: Monday, October 01, 2007 5:48 PM To: wright@rootsweb.com Subject: [WRIGHT] Judith, Susanna, Jacob VA, SC to Lincoln CO., TN JUDITH WRIGHT 1783 VA-1869 Lincoln CO., TN m WILLIAM WOFFORD 1773 SC-1858 Lincoln CO., TN Was Judith Wright related to: SUSANNA WRIGHT 1769 VA-? This is from the old Lincoln County, TN mail list: Subject: WAF: William Wofford, Lincoln Cy, TN Date: Sun, 20 Sep 1998 22:47:51 EDT From: LTC519@aol.com Reply-To: wafford-l@rootsquest.com To: wafford-l@usroots.com Can anyone fill in some background on this gentleman? William Wofford signed his will on 24 September 1853 in Lincoln Cy, TN. It was proven on 5 July 1858. William mentions his "present" wife, Judith, and a daughter, Lucy, who was married to George Mooney. In the usual, unclear, fashion, William also mentions a deceased son, Isaac, who was born in South Carolina "out of wedlock" to William's wife Judith, whose maiden name was Judith Wright. Isaac was "known in South Carolina as Isaac Wright, but was known in the State of Tennessee and in the State of Mississippi by Isaac Wofford." My interest is just William and his presence in Tennessee. I have an item showing William was already in Lincoln Cy as of October 1834 when he was witnessing a will. It sounds like William may be part of those Spartenburg, SC Woffords. Does he ring a bell with anyone? -----Original Message----- From: wright-bounces@rootsweb.com [mailto:wright-bounces@rootsweb.com] On Behalf Of Julia Molitz Sent: Monday, October 01, 2007 5:48 PM To: wright@rootsweb.com Subject: [WRIGHT] Judith, Susanna, Jacob VA, SC to Lincoln CO., TN JUDITH WRIGHT 1783 VA-1869 Lincoln CO., TN m WILLIAM WOFFORD 1773 SC-1858 Lincoln CO., TN Was Judith Wright related to: SUSANNA WRIGHT 1769 VA-? Ancestry.com turns up two Pinckneys in Lawrence County in 1860. Pinckney and Cornelia were next door to his older brother, Robert Wright. Their father, Thomas, was age 77, living with Robert. They were in Hickman County from about 1824 until sometime in the 1850s. There was also a 13 year old Pinckney in the household of P. M. Wright. This would be P.M. who married Martha Voss 10 Oct 1853 in Lawrence. He was 52 in 1860 born NC, she was 30 born in Tennessee. I thought his first name was actually Perrin but this must be the man you are speaking of. If he was related to my Wrights, I have yet to find out how. -----Original Message----- From: wright-bounces@rootsweb.com [mailto:wright-bounces@rootsweb.com] On Behalf Of Julia Molitz Sent: Monday, October 01, 2007 5:56 PM To: wright@rootsweb.com Subject: Re: [WRIGHT] Rockingham , NC to Lincoln CO., TN Mickey, I stand corrected if the Pinkney Wright that lived in Lincoln CO., TN was not the Pinkney that died in 1893 Lawrence CO., TN.
