    3. Vaughn, As a follow up to your email to Donna, I thought the following would be of interest to you. Frist, the wife of your John Wright I was a Dorothy, but was not Dorothy (Awbrey) Wright. Dorothy Awbrey was the wife of John Billups. In Essex County, Virginia, Deed 19/28 dated Feb 11, 1729, the following statement is made: "John Billups & Dorithy my wife of the parish of St. Ann's in the County of Essex within the Colony of Virginia Daughter & heir Apparant of Richd. Aubery Decd Son of Henry Aubery Decd." The identification of Dorothy Awbrey as John Wright's wife was first made by Charles Hoppin, but he made that identification on the basis of a process of elimination and apparently did not have knowledge of this Essex County deed. Second, the death of John Wright I was in 1729 or 1730 in Stafford County, Virginia. This is set forth in the following discussion from The Washington Ancestry by Charles Hoppin at page 386: ". . . ."Liber K. 1721 to 1730" and "Liber L. 1728 to 1731" - the original books of the recording of wills administrationships, appraisals, inventories, settlements, and distributions of the estates of testates and intestates, and of orders of court, etc., of the county of Stafford are among the record books of that county between 1709 and 1744 long since lost. The alphabetical index to the documents recorded in Liber K is still extant down to a portion of the entries under the letter W. The index to Liber L is preserved except for the letters A and B. The extant index to both libers is entitled, "General Index, 1721-45," and the indexes to libers K and L follow one another. The index to Liber K indicates that the lost book comprised a little over 300 pages of records. Near the end of the lost Liber K, 1721 to 1730, at its page 269, was recorded, as the extant index to that liber bears witness, "John Wright's Inventory, 269." The position of page 269 in the lost book shows that the inventory was taken, presented in court, accepted, and ordered recorded in 1729 or 1730. This evidence is proof of the death, in 1729 or 1730, of John3 Wright, Senior, of the Leesylvania plantation on Powell's Run. The plantation then and until July 9, 1730, was located in Stafford County, and on that day and afterward in Prince William County. Directly beneath the index entry referring to the inventory as having been recorded at page 269 of the lost Liber K, is another entry, viz., "Wright's A/C vs Wright's Estate - 285." This record refers to the administrator's acount of the administration of the estate of John3 Wright. . . ." This seems to be adequate evidence to establish that John Wright I died in 1729 or 1730 in Stafford County. For convenience of reference, I label this John Wright as 1729/30 (year of death) John Wright of Stafford County, Virginia (place of death). Third, 1792 (year of death) John Wright of Fauquier County, Virginia (place of death), the son of 1729/30 John Wright of Stafford County, Virginia, and Dorothy (_____) Wright, was born before Oct 2, 1700, not in 1707 or 1712 as asserted by Charles Hoppin. In the case of Darnall v. Turberville, Prince William Land Causes, 1789-93/353, the deposition of John Wright stated as follows: "The Deposition of Capt John Wright aged ninety years and upwards Deposed and sayeth that a red oak the he is now at that he the said Deponent has heard it called Colo. Corbins line for sixty years and upwards and he bought land of Jeremiah Darnall by this said line at Colo. Corbins and further saith not John Wright This day Capt. John Wright made oath in the presence of Jeremiah Darnall Pltf and George Turberville Deft to the above given under my hand this 2nd day of October 1790 Jo Blackwell" This deposition was published by Sam Sparacio in Prince William County Land Causes 1789-1793. Charles Hoppin listed 1792 John Wright's date of birth in one article as in 1707 and in another article as in 1712, but neither was supported by documented evidence. He simply made guesses as to the date of birth and, as the deposition makes clear, incorrect guesses. Fourth, the wife of 1792 John Wright of Fauquier County, Virginia, was Elizabeth (Bronaugh) Darnall, the daughter of Jeremiah Bronaugh and the widow of Waugh Darnall. This identification is based on the will of Waugh Darnall, the will of Jeremiah Bronaugh, and documents filed in the case of Smith v. Darnall in which Elizabeth's sons James Wright and Jeremiah Darnall were identified as half-brothers. The documents are a little long to include in this email. Charles Hoppin incorrectly identified Elizabeth as a daughter of Waugh Darnall. Vaughn, if you or anyone else on this list knows of a descendant of the John Wright III of your email (the John Wright in my identification scheme known as 1789 John Wright of Surry County, North Carolina) who is a male and surnamed Wright, I hope they will contact me or the Wright DNA Project. We have one male Wright descendant who has participated, but we would like to have others participate to confirm the correct Y-DNA sequence for this Wright line. I will be happy to exchange information on this line with any interested researchers. Best wishes, Robert N. 3. Jeff . . . Let me recant what I said in my last email to you. Through some extensive and exhaustive researching in Census records, with your idea of the initial "D" being Dison . . . I believe I have a match to the article I copied when I was in Salt Lake City last year. William D. or Dison WRIGHT was b. either 1852 or 1857 (depending on which Census your reading) and still hails from Alabama. His father, I now believe, is one James B. or Brantley WRIGHT Sr. b. 2 Feb 1830 in Alabama. He d. 20 Jan 1858 in Carroll county, Arkansas. I already had the name of Nancy as his wife, but not her maiden name. When I started searching with the name of Brantley . . . then I referred back to my article and . . . the rest they say is history. Her maiden name was Thompson. Nancy was b. 23 Nov 1825 in Kentucky and d. 23 Dec 1872 in Carroll county, Arkansas. The 1870 Census helped a great deal. It listed Nancy as being 44 and from KY. Her children were Elizabeth b. abt 1846 (still not too sure that she belongs as a child of Nancy's), James B. (Brantley) b. abt 1851, Martha E. b. abt 1854 and William D. (Dison) b. abt 1857. James Brantley Jr. m. Mary Elizabeth Keeland and they had 11 children. Martha E. m. William A. Aery and had 1 child and William D. (Dison) m. Malissa J. ?? and the correct number of children varies. First I had 3 and now I have 4. There are probably more unaccounted for. I have James Brantley WRIGHT (the one married to Nancy Thompson) as a Sr. however . . . something I was reading last night indicates to me that his father may have been a Brantley WRIGHT married to a Martha. Aahh . . . and the "hunt" continues. :-) Would you happen to have a maiden name for William Dison WRIGHT's wife Malissa J. ? Her "J" may be a "Jane". Thank you again for your help . . . Lynn
