I believe in "bread on the waters." Helping others usually brings back even greater rewards. Your reference to Charles Hoppin brought back a few memories. Many years ago I met a researcher who was also who was also researching BALLARDs. He was a volunteer at the local LDS Library. We became friends -- he knew genealogy and I knew computers. I mentioned Hoppin and that set him off.. I've since been leery of anything by Hoppin but I have used info from others that they probably got from his works. I've decided to accept your information instead of Hoppin's. ;-) That's because I have lots of info that agrees with yours. I'm attaching a document that I did a few years ago from data that was in my computer before I changed to reflect your input. I would appreciate more and will send you any info that I have (in the unlikely case you don't already have). > Vaughn, if you or anyone else on this list knows of a descendant of the > John Wright III of your email (the John Wright in my identification > scheme known as 1789 John Wright of Surry County, North Carolina) who is > a male and surnamed Wright, I hope they will contact me or the Wright > DNA Project. I don't know any WRIGHT surname descendants, but there are a bunch of Wright/Pettey descendants in my hometown, Nacogdoches, Texas and a cemetery (Old North Church) there where most are relatives by birth or marriage. I correspond with a few of their descendants. I want to keep in touch. Vaughn Ballard 2320 Country Green Lane, Arlington, TX 76011 e-mail vballard@airmail.net
I am related to John W Wright b. abt 1829 PA d. 1880-1900 Franklin Co., Ohio. Married twice, 1st wife E. Amelia ? 2nd wife Eliza Bethard Corbin (my gggrandmother she was also married before.)I believe John to be the son of Samuel Wright b. 13 Jun 1801, Chester Co.,Pennsylvania and Susanna Acalf Wright b.28 Sep 1810, PA. Have not been able to prove it, but in the 1850 Census, Perry Twshp., Franklin Co., Ohio they have a son John who matches his age and they are located in the area he lived most of his life. If anyone has any info that would help me on this family I sure would appreciate it. I have most of his family line after he married Eliza that I would gladly share. Thanks in advance. I am a descendant of Rev. Reuben Wright, a Methodist-Episcopal minister who married Joanna (or Anna) Gilbert in 1798, Sussex Co. VA. They subsequently went to OH (Greene Co. OH) for what appears only a short time, then on to Henry Co. IN where Reuben co-pastored a church in Knightstown, IN. They are in the Wayne Co. IN census in 1850. Their children, that I've found so far, are Margaret Wright who marr Thos B. Miller & lived in Hancock Co. IN. David G. Wright in 1840-50 Hancock Co. IN census is probably a son because he is living next door to the Millers & a Reuben Wright in the 1840 Hancock Co census. Reuben & Anna's son, and my 3rd gr grandfather, James G. Wright, marr Lucinda McComas in 1830 Rush Co. IN. They moved on to Jasper Co. IL in abt 1840 where James was a "circuit-riding" M-E minister. He appears to have died about 1865 & I don't know for certain what happened to Lucinda. I have old photos of this couple, as well as some of their children. My ancestor was Johanna Gilbert Wright who marr Wm N. Arbuckle in Clark Co. IL & later in life she marr Alexander G. Wilson in Lancaster Co. NE. Recent dna studies have shown that this line of Wrights from Reuben is related to the line of Jarrett Wright who married Tabitha Howell in 1791 Brunswick Co. VA. They ended up in Greene Co. GA. Unfortunately, we have no info as to earlier ancestors from this study. ANYone who can share info on these 2 Wright lines, please post or contact deae@consolidated.net. We don't know where to turn from here but will be more than happy to share lots of Wright info from this line & old photos as well. Names associated & around these families are: Gilbert, Barker, Ellis, Stacey, Harris, Randle, Black & Lowery. Thank you very much, Diane Ethridge Conroe, TX

Yes, Orville and Wilber Wright were important, contributing members of society, but so were many of the "other" Wrights. This is twice that this member has taken on such a horrible tone on this board. I am very proud of my Wright heritiage and yet, I would never refuse to share it with anyone.
