The ones he was working on looked like they were about second generation, but he was thinking their ancestors came from Co. Essex, England, too. Unfortunately, I don't remember anything else about the context of this old message. Hopefully, Chris is still connected and will respond to you with further clairification. His widow filed a petition for a land grant in Canada, based upon his supposed loyalist service, but this was rejected as being filed too late. The merits of her case were never even examined. There is no record of his joing any Loyalist unit, he does not appear on any British rolls. One of Captain Simeon Wright's sons DID become a Loyalist toward the very end of the war. That son was Wait Wright, whom I descend from. Important Note: The author of this message may not be subscribed to this list. If you think their gr gr grandfather came over from England, it's simply not true. Orville and Wilbur Wright, the flyers, were about 9th generation. Descended from the Wrights of Kelvedon Hall. Middle John, son of Lord John Wright of Kelvedon Hall. Middle John was from WrightsBridge having gained control of Havering from his father after his death. Benzie Banner newspaper (sorry, don't have exact publish date) obituary states, "Chas Wright died at Weldon last week and was buried Sunday. A number of our citizens attended the funeral." I believe Weldon became known as Thompsonville around 1903. I requested a death record from the Michigan State Registrar (in 1997), but they had no death record for "Charles Wright" for 1891, 1892, nor 1893. Any information would be appreciated. Wright in 1889; extract below. Does anybody have family information on this Charles Wright? The area referred to is in Benzie County, MI, along Lake Michigan, approximately 3 miles south of the town of Empire. "Aral was located at the end of Esch Road where Otter Creek drains into Lake Michigan. . In 1882, Dr. Arthur O'Leary, who owned most of the land in Lake Township, built a sawmill on Otter Creek and began to harvest the great stands of white pine that grew along the lakeshore. . In 1886, a Wisconsin lumberman, Charles T. Wright, leased the mill from O'Leary. By then most of the pine was gone, but Wright kept the mill busy turning out shingle bolts, fence posts, railroad ties, and hardwood for flooring and furniture, which he shipped across the lake to Kenosha in the company steam-powered barge. In 1889 Charles Wright got into a dispute over taxes with the county authorities and on August 10, Sheriff A. B. Case sent two of his deputies, Neil Marshall and Dr. Frank Thurber with a writ of attachment for the logs at the Otter Creek mill. Charley met them there armed with a rifle and a pistol. He shot and killed both men and disappeared into the woods. Word of the killings spread like wildfire and by late afternoon, a great crowd had gathered at the mill. The mood was ugly and their aim was to find Charley Wright and string him up. Wright was captured after one of his Indian workers, Lahala, revealed his hiding place after being tortured by hanging him nearly to death. Wright was convicted of two counts of murder and was sentenced to life imprisonment at Jackson, MI. He was paroled in May, 1902. . This description of Aral was taken from Ghost Towns of Michigan Volume I by Larry Wakefield, pp53-58." Important Note: The author of this message may not be subscribed to this list. Henry Wright was born in 1879 in GA. He was son of N. F. Wright and Sarah J Smith. They were married in Calhoun County, AL and were in the 1860 and 1870 Calhoun County, AL census records. The family was in Floyd County, GA in the 1880 census where Henry was born. Henry is sister to my ggrandmother, Elizabeth francis Wright. I am trying to trace all of the siblings in the family. Henry was in the 1920 and 1930 Jefferson County, AL census in the Birmingham area. He was married to Tallula or Lula. They had children, Robert, Louise, George, Curtis and Lawrence. Does this sound familiar to anyone? Linda A
