I just found out that my Great Great Great Grandfather's name was Benjamin Raney Wright, born ca. 1846 in GA - married L. Caroline ? in ca. 1868? Anyways, my connection to him is his son, James Benjamin, his son, Jay Lula, his son, Jimmy, and then my father Jimmy Morris Sr. I just realized your Wright had Raney in his name and it struck me as a possible connection since my family has lived in Polk County since Benjamin Raney. Hope we can figure something out! Jimmy Important Note: The author of this message may not be subscribed to this list. I believe he is George W. Wright, b. Aug 1858 in Harmony, Washington Co., Mo to David Wright and a Mary A (have not located her maiden name). David & Mary died between 1868 & 1870 when their children are found with David's brother Brazillia Wright in Washington Co., MO. George's sister, Mary Caroline Wright, was adopted between 1870 & 1880 by William and Hannah McMcMurtry and was living in Douglas Co., MO, where she married my great grandfather George Washington Sisco in 1882. Author: nctxroots Surnames: Classification: queries Message Board URL: http://boards.rootsweb.com/surnames.wright/2550.1.1.1.1/mb.ashx Message Board Post: On pg. 354, of the AUTOBIOGRAPHY OF REV. A. B. WRIGHT published in 1896, "Among these was the arrangement to hold a protracted meeting in the Methodist Episcopal Church in Sunbright, in connection with his beloved cousin, Elder Ballinger Wright, of the Baptist Church in Kentucky (1893)." 1. Ballinger Wright b: 15 Apr 1821 is definitely Moses Wright and Margaret Edmondson Wright's grandson. 2. Rev. A. B. Wright is definitely Moses Wright and Margaret Edmonson Wright's grandson. 3. On pg 1 of the book, A. B. Wright lists all Moses' children for his children to use as their history. He lists: Jesse, James, John W., Robert, Jeremiah, and Aaron. Also, Sarah, Zilphia, and Martha. He specifically states "six boys and three girls." 3. Jesse married an UK Vaughn. James married an UK Gravel. John W. married Peninah Dail Robert married Nancy Dail. Jeremiah never married as he died in the War of 1812. Aaron married Nancy Pritchard. Sarah married an UK Pierce. Zilpha married Joel Holbert/Halbert. Martha married a Lynn/Linn. 4. Most of this information has been extensively documented. 5. There is no mention of any Lewis Wright anywhere in the Rev. Wright's book. However, that does not mean that Lewis is not Ballinger's brother and their father is either James or Jesse. (Or, Jeremiah b: 1787, whom A. B. said he didn't think was ever married. A. B. was usually right, but?) 6. Please keep looking at what you have and maybe we can piece together to whom Lewis Wright belongs. In the 1840 Clinton Co. KY census there is a Lewis Wright living close to Jesse Wright, but his age would make him Jesse's son or nephew. Important Note: The author of this message may not be subscribed to this list. Alot are thinking that jesse or james is ballinger father,Iam the odd ball in our group! Iam researching that Ira or Lewis is ballinger's father. Heres my theory. Its close! I think Ira and Lewis and james and jesse and yours robert could be brothers! Lewis was a baptist preacher and gave his services at several of the same churches ballinger preached at. Not only that you can find lewis living right next door to ballinger in one of the census! Where else would a grandpa be but right next door helping his young son and being by his grandchildren! Author: DIANEE Surnames: WRIGHT, JARRETT, HOWELL, GRIFFIN, MCCOMAS, GILBERT Classification: queries Message Board URL: http://boards.rootsweb.com/surnames.wright/5869.4.1.1/mb.ashx Message Board Post: Yes, I just wish I had more info to share but this Reuben of mine has been a real challenge. Last year, I found a male desc of my Reuben Wright,(b 1779 VA)& this man agreed to a DNA test. We were a 12 for 12 marker match with a desc of Jarrett Wright (who married Tabitha Howell in 1791, Lunenburg Co. VA). This Jarrett moved to Wilkes Co GA & then died in 1820, Greene Co. GA. I also found some others of this particular Wright line in E. IL, around Madison Co. However, none of the Wright researchers of these areas include my Reuben in their data. "My" Jarrett Wright (don't know the connection yet)was a son of Wm Wright, b 1755, VA & Wm was a brother to another Jarrett Wright who married Eliz Griffin. I believe Job was this Jarrett's brother, isn't that correct? My line from Reuben & Anna (Gilbert) Wright, who married in 1798, Sussex Co. Va, moved to Greene Co. OH, with the Wrights from Brunswick Co. to set up the Methodist-Episcopal Church in Xenia. They then moved on to become early settlers in Henry Co. IN. Reuben & Anna/Joanna Wright were in the 1850 Wayne Co. IN census, both were 71 & I can't find a trace of them after that. My ancestor is their son, James Gilbert Wright who moved to Jasper Co. IL in about 1840 & was a circuit-rider minister in that part of IL until his death shortly after 1860. I have several of the names of James' siblings in Hancock Co. IN and lots of info on James' children (he marr Lucinda McComas in 1830 Rush Co. IN) but that's all I know about this family, after many years of researching them. If you know anything at all on my Reuben & w/Anna, please let me know. I have pictures of my James & Lucinda (McComas) Wright. Thanks.
