It looks like the Morgan and the Wright families knew each other in Maryland. Is it possible that Richard Wright's wife 'Ann' was a Morgan? If he was still in Maryland in 1753/54 timeframe, that would account why there's no marriage information for them in NC - they would have married in Maryland before Benjamin was born in 1752. It's possible when the Wright brothers headed to NC, the Morgan's and possibly other families went as well. No telling when they could have left MD, but it was after the last 'legal' episode he participated in. That would leave a gap of about 8-10 years until 1762, when the deed show him in Orange County, NC. Perhaps they stopped over in Virginia? Kinda long stop-over. I saw something recently that said early 1760's he was in the Norfolk Virginia area. Fact? I don't know. The fact that James Morgan Jr. witnessed Richard, Sr.'s will would also indicate a familiar relationship - either her brother or nephew? Just speculating. I am trying to confirm the birthplace of James Morgan, Jr. (b Abt 1763) son of James (Janus) Morgan who married Mary Davis 1755 in Rowan County, North Carolina. 3 of Janus Morgan's daughters married the sons of Richard Wright, Sr. of Rowan County, North Carolina. I have a copy of a pension for a James Morgan, courtesy of henrihay48@aol.com, dated June 7, 1832 stating that he is a resident of Yancey County, NC; 74 years old; volunteered in Randolph (Rowan) County 1781, born in Baltimore apr 26, 1760. Can anyone confirm the parents of this James Morgan? I'd love to believe it, but unfortunately james morgan is a common name. This can be another piece of the puzzle about the parents of Richard Wright, Sr. Herb Arkin 92,000 Descendants and relatives of Richard Wright, Sr. of Rowan County, North Carolina who emigrated to Illinois, Indiana, Iowa, Kansas and Missouri. I am looking for information on my 3rd great grandparents Tate Wright and Rebecca Dick, mainly Tate Wright and who his parents and siblings might be. Tate Wright was born in Ohio in 1824. He married Rebecca Dick in Clinton County, Ohio 29 Sep 1844. It is believed Rebecca is the daughter of Hieronymus (different spellings) Dick and Mary Ann Brunner who lived in Wayne Township in Clinton County, Ohio. Rebecca Dick was born in Virginia ca 1822. I descend from their son Fairfax Wright who was born 25 Jun 1845 in Clinton Co., Ohio. Tate Wright and Rebecca Dick and their son Fairfax Wright moved and was in the 1856 Des Moines County, Iowa census. Living next door to them was Armsted Davis and his wife Eliza A. and Thomas Wright was living with them and they were all born in Ohio. The census states Tate Wright was 31 years old, Armsted Davis was 37 years old and Thomas Wright was 23 years old. All born in Ohio. Tate, Rebecca and Fairfax Wright moved again and was in the 1860 Saline County, Missouri census and they then moved to Pulaski County, Illinois where Tate and Rebecca died after the 1870 census. Their son Fairfax Wright lived there until he died 12 Jan 1913. I am looking for any information on Tate Wright's parents and siblings. Any information would greatly be appreciated as this has been a very big brick wall. Marianne Dillow Illinois

Author: MichaelCharlesWight Surnames: Classification: queries Message Board URL: http://boards.rootsweb.com/surnames.wright/15387.1.1.2/mb.ashx Message Board Post: Hi Melinda, I am not surprised you knew a Mike Wright as a child. There are over 30,000 living Mike Wrights in the US today. It is a name as common as mud. Might as well be Dan Jones or Smith. But Arlie Wright, now that is something that should stand out a bit in the records. In fact, two things come immediately to mind. First, there is a fairly prized hybrid cultivar of cactus (Crassulaceae, echeveria gibbiflora)that people here in the southwest like to grow in their dry gardens called "Arlie Wright". It is a beautifully colored broad leaf little cactus that is quite hardy. It is named, I believe, after the son of its developer, the legendary San Diego area nurseryman, Dick Wright (of De Luz, CA). The other Arlie Wright I know about is a young professional gardener for Baylor University over in Waco, TX (I think a grandson of Dick Wright). How weird is that coincidence that I should remember these things? However, I doubt seriously it has any bearing on your genealogical problem. They just sort of popped into my head. I am definately not the guy to come to for WV Wrights. My database contains not a single Wright from WV. All of my work has been done on New England and Ohio Wrights with some forays into the genealogy of early NC Wrights, most of whom are connected to very early coastal Virginia and Maryland ancestors. Your task would seem to be aided considerably by available census records, marriage and death records as well as living relatives whom you might try to contact if you have any of their names. If you have no names, places or dates from records research, you might try writing to all the Wrights in an area you know they once lived. I once did a blanket mailing to every Wright in the three Northeast most counties of Ohio looking for some information on a particular relative of mine who I knew had lived there for a short time but for whom I could find no records. What I got back was so much information it took me 6 months to sort it out! The trick to getting a good response from this type of mailing is to be open and honest about what you are doing and pledge to not publish any information about living relatives without their permission. In my mailing, I enclosed two copies of a General Release form that contained a request for the respondant to list in a big space on the form those bits of information or data that they did not want published. At the bottom of the form I wrote out my pledge not to publish the listed items, signed and dated both forms, and invited them to keep one copy for their records. My response rate was 22%, which is fantastic for this type of thing. However, I would only do that after I had looked at all the available census records for the area and all the vital statistics (birth, marriage and death records) for the area. Doing that generally focuses your letter into a fairly narrow range of questions from which people can see you have done your howework, that you are serious, and that you have a very real problem only they can help you solve. When you ask for information, provide as much detail as you can, especially birth, death and marriage dates, places and names and be specific in what you are asking for; dates, places, names. Peolple are more likely to help you with a specific bit of data, if they have a good frame of reference within which they can recognize that they know something useful to you. Unfortunately, the information you need to acquire to frame such specific questions can only be obtained by studying the existing records for the area of interest. A good way to do that is to join Ancestry.com for a period of time and use their databases to search the vast array of records they have on-line. There will be dozens of Arlie Wrights, but you should be able to pair up the right one with Cecilia and find the family in the census records. From there you will know where to look for vital statistic records and start to follow them around as they moved from WV to NY or back or whatever. It is well worth the money to join Ancestry for a short time, get your search done, then resign membership. There is no way you could do the equivalent research cheaper unless your local family history center has access to the Ancestry.com database and you use their access to do the same searchs. That is the best I know to tell you. There are others who are on the Wright-list and see these message board posts who I know have extensive Virginia and WV databases and perhaps will see your post and can help you more directly. Good luck, Mike Wright Important Note: The author of this message may not be subscribed to this list. Are there any Chilean immigration records you can research for 1867 to see if you can find any additional information such as a ship name and embarkation date? If Chile does not have any records for immigration from that year and you do not know who your grandfather's parents were (when & where born and/or died), then the best avenue of research would be London emigration records to try to find him. I know some people who might be able to help you with that type of research if you do not have access to British Admiralty, maritime and emigration records. Are you a direct paternal (male line) descendant of your grandfather? If you are or you have a relative who is, Y-DNA testing may be a way to get you associated with an established Wright line. There are three main testing services that are keeping a Y-DNA database of Wright men. My DNA profile along with the profiles of over 150 other Wright men are posted at www.wright-dna.org and you can arrange for testing with this organization (FamilyTreeDNA.com). It costs money for the testing, but it may save you years of research to find the general Wright family group to which your grandfather belonged. My family group, which came to America from County Essex, England in the 1600s, also includes a man whose family ancestry is Hungarian! Y-DNA testing is a way to connect with cousins we do not know exist from all around the world. And we would be pleased to help you connect to your Wright ancestors in this way as well. Please let me know if we can help you further. Best Regards, Mike Wright Important Note: The author of this message may not be subscribed to this list.
