A lot of that work you cite was done in the first part of the 20th century and is full of errors because access to records was so difficult at that time that a lot of what those researchers needed to see, they couldn't access. If you double check a lot of the work published by those researchers today, you'll find the errors and see that James Wright's son, Samuel did not have any Simeon Wrights in his descendant family and the Simeon Wrights in the descendant family of James' youngest son, Jonathan are the wrong ones to be your family ancestors. Your Simeon Wright family is from the descendant family of Deacon Samuel Wright's eldest son, Sgt. Samuel Wright. I hate to say it, but a lot of what your Grandma did in putting her tree together is in need of fixing up to make it correspond to the truth we know today. I look forward to seeing the scan of your tree and to helping you to make the correct connections and gain access to the latest records and references. 3. Mary, A couple of additional items came up on your Wright line. On WorldConnect there is a posting by Glenda, [email protected], dated 9/5/2007 which listed Frank Westly Wright, Sr. as the son of William Thomas Wright and Sarah Frances Burgess. William Thomas Wright was born on May 23, 1841, in Augusta County, VA, married to Sarah Frances Burgess on May 30, 1867 in Augusta County, VA, and died March 30, 1907, in Augusta County, VA. The 1850 Census for Augusta County, VA, listed one William Wright of the correct age and that was William T. Wright, age 8, in the Jefferson Wright household. Jefferson Wright had the following household in that 1850 census: _Name, Age, Sex, Occupation, Born_ Jefferson Wright, 30, M, Millwright, Virginia Samuel H. Wright, 13, M, Virginia John W. Wright, 10, M, Virginia William T. Wright, 8, M, Virginia Mary A. Wright, 28, F, Virginia Mary E. Wright, 6, F, Virginia Mary A. Teter, 62, F, Virginia This indicates that Jefferson Wright's wife was probably Mary (Teter) Wright. I did not find a Jefferson Wright marriage in Augusta County prior to 1850, so they were probably married in another county. Hope this is of some help to your research. Robert N. 2. Robert N. Grant
    3. Mary, Your posting about Wrights and Crickenbergers caught my eye. My suspicion is that there are a limited number of Wright-Crickenberger/Crickenbarger marriages. I have two such listings. The first is for Susan A. Wright, daughter of 1877 Joseph Wright of Bedford County, VA, and Ann (Hill) Wright, to David S. Crickenbarger on Aug 12, 1857, at Bedford County, VA. That marriage record is set forth below. The second is for Betty Frances Wright, the daughter of 1860 (year of death) Lewis Wright of Lynchburg, VA, (place of death) and Elizabeth (Hill) Wright, to the same David Solomon Crickenbarger, but now a widower, on Feb 24, 1875, in Lynchburg. That marriage record is also set forth below. I believe, but cannot document as yet, that 1877 Joseph and 1860 Lewis were brothers and sons of William Wright, Sr. (Bedford County, VA). If any of this rings a bell with your research, I will be happy to exchange information. Best wishes, Robert N. Grant 15 Campo Bello Court Menlo Park, CA 94025 [email protected] *First Marriage*: The marriage license of Susan A. Author: MichaelWright12 Surnames: Classification: queries Message Board URL: http://boards.rootsweb.com/surnames.wright/6959.2704.1.1.1.1.1/mb.ashx Message Board Post: Thanks Amanda, that was helpful, but I am a bit confused still. Was Myrtle's maiden name Wright and her father's name Charles Arthur Wright? Somehow I got the impression earlier that Myrtle's maiden name was not Wright but she married a Wright. I must have misunderstood. Assuming that we are talking about the line of Charles Arthur Wright, I cannot substantiate the part of the line your grandma has from Hiram back to Deacon Samuel Wright. There are no Simeon Wright men in the descendant line of James Wright's son, Samuel. The Simeon Wright men that do occur in the James Wright family are descendants of James Wright's youngest son, Johathan, but within those Simeon Wright families there are no Hiram Wright children. In effect, I think your grandma may have the wrong Deacon Wright forefathers listed or there is a missing generation somewhere. I believe the Deacon Samuel Wright line that it is more likely you descent from is that of my own direct male line from Deacon Samuel Wright, Sgt Samuel Wright (16?? - 1675). Sgt Samuel Wright was Deacon Samuel Wright's oldest son and eldest brother to James Wright, the direct male line ancestor of the Wright Brothers. So I guess my next question is are we talking about the Hiram Wright born on 25 July 1803 (died maybe 1833, married to Eliza Blood) to Simeon Wright and Susannah Abbot? If we are, he is still related to the Wright Brother's ancestors, but a little more distantly than your grandma would have it from her family tree. What I have for this Hiram Wright is as follows: 1. Dea. Samuel Wright 2. Sgt. Samuel Wright (16?? - 1675 killed by Indians at Battle of Bloody Brook, m Eliz.Burt) 3. Capt. Benjamin Wright (1660 - 1743, m. Thankful Taylor) 4. Daniel Wright (1697 -1731, m. Margaret Judd) 5. Capt. Simeon Wright (25 Jan 1726, m. Sarah nee ??, of Rutland, VT, removed to Canada during RW and died there) 6. Simeon Wright Jr. of VT and MA (1751 - 1847, m Martha Freelove Foote) 7. Simeon Wright of VT and Licking Co., OH (1772 - 1833, m. Susannah Abbot) 8. Seth 8. Lucy 8. Hiram (25 July 1803 - 1833?) 8. Sally 8. Wait Farrington 8. Robert Preston 8. Polly 8. Martha 8. James N. 8. Anna Maria I have notes for Hiram that say he married Eliza Blood, but I only have one child listed for them and that is the Charles Eugene Wright (1840 -1892, Civil War Veteran) that I believe matches your Grandma's listing at this point. I have a note for Charles Eugene Wright to the effect that his descendants are in Onley, IL and he served in Col. Lindsey's 48th Ohio Volunteer Brigade during the Civil War and later married Nancy Harrison Hannah and removed to Onley, IL. Beyond this 1840 - 1892 time frame I have not traced this family and have no further data on them though it would seem they are yours. Please check the birth dates and wife names on your grandma's chart and let me know if they match up with this line. Also if she lists any sources for the data she has, that would be helpful to have as well. If some of the dates and wives' names do not match up, let me know what your grandma has for those facts for Simeon and Hiram and I will see what other Simeon Wright group might be the right one or the one she has them confused with. There were a bunch of Simeon Wrights running around in the 1700's from all sorts of places and it was hard to tell which was which, especially back in the days when your grandma was doing this all by hand. In any case, it does appear to me you are related more closely to me than to the Wright Brothers, but we are both certainly in the Wright Brother's extended family group. Thanks again for sharing and I hope we can come down to a connection that is supported by existing documents. Hope to hear from you soon.
