    1. [WRIGHT] John M. Wrigh
    2. Shirley Gragg
    3. I am not related [that I've been able to find] to this Wright family. I received this as part of a package which DID reflect my own Wright line. I'm posting it, so perhaps whomever JOHN M. WRIGHT belongs to, will have the information from "Bible Records Vol III, Washington County Historical Society, Washington County, Indiana": JOHN M. WRIGHT FAMILY BIBLE Holman's Edition, The Holy Bible containing the Old and New Testaments, translated out of the original tongues and with the former translations diligently compared and revised; with complete Concordance, embracing every passage of Scripture in the largest editions. When we are done with trial and care, We hope to meet our lover there. (Note by copyist.[who is unknown]... The parents of Mary J Stewart, wife of John M. Wright settled about seven Miles west of Salem in the 1830's, coming from Louisville, Ky. While they were living in Louisville, Mary J. a small child, picked up a cigar butt in the street, and smoked it. It made her very ill and she was afraid to tell what made her sick. At this time there was much cholera in Louisville, and her parents, fearing the dreaded disease had already struck their family, loaded their belongings into a wagon and headed north. By the time they reached the Banks Corner neighborhood, she had recovered and they settled there. The Stewarts and the John Wright family are buried I in the Standish cemetery, sometimes called the Banks or Stewart cemetery. The Bible was handed down to George L. Wright and his wife Sarah M. Wright, and then to Edgar J. and Mary Taylor Wright. After the death of Edgar J., it was given to William C. Wright. in 1966, William C. Wright and Martha B. (Mattie) Harvey Hopwood, sole survivors of the George Lincoln Wright family, presented the Bible to the Washington County Historical Society for future preservation.) Wright married Hobart Durnil, three children, Kenneth and James Durnil and daughter Thelma Durnill (Joanne Green) NOTE: The notations in [ ] are not in the document, but added here for clarification of individuals and/or situations...sg ------------------ Thinking that John M. Wright might be related to my Richard Wright, Sr. or Jr. Family, I sought to find his parents. I came upon several 'Find-a-Grave' sites that were posted with the information. That's when the realization hit home that this is another Wright line, not my own. The following information is not from the family Bible, but from a descendant - The story goes on ..: JOHN M. WRIGHT'S parents were ASA WRIGHT and PHEBE MARTIN. - They are buried in the Banks-Standish Cemetery, Washington County, IN. ASA Wright, b. unknown; died 2 March 1856. Son of THOMAS and LEVINA WRIGHT. "Was a Deacon of the Mill Creek Baptist Church which he helped organize. Father was killed by Indians in Shelby County, Kentucky. He started a tannery in Kentucky and when he came to Washington County, Indiana, he again established a tannery and was well known in a large part of Southern Indiana for his superior work." "I found this in History of Washington County. ASA WRIGHT was born in CULPEPPER COUNTY, VIRGINIA about the year 1772, the son of THOMAS and LAVINA WRIGHT, who later moved to Shelby County, Kentucky, where Thomas Wright was killed by Indians. His widow married secondly, a Mr Yocum, a wealthy plantation owner and large slave holder, and because she objected to slavery and horseracing, determined that her son should not grow up amid the influences which surrounded him in the Yocum home. She, therefore, bound the boy, Asa, to a tanner. Lavinia spent her last days with her son, Asa, and died on 3-31-1835 at the age of 78, and his sister Frances, who came to Indiana with him and who never married, continuing to make her home with her brother, died 3-17-1855 at the age of 72. I have been unable to find the parents of Thomas. One researcher says that Lavinia's maiden name was Coleman but I have no documentation for this. I haven't done much research on this Wright family as I'm connected thru Asa's wife Phoebe Martin, my 4th great Aunt." Hoping this will help someone..... Shirley

    3. Anyone wanting to discuss and meander thru WRIGHTS in Missouri back to Kentucky back Revolutionary war Kings Mountain, Carolinas, and even farther Oyster Bay Long Island New York, I should have plenty time after next week. The repeated names Hezekiah, Gideon, Darling/durlin, and Richard. There are several nice compilations on Rootsweb and FTM Ancestry. The Wright family 1929 by George Wright is a great tool but as some wide assumptions, but I am sure that is the way he was told and the statements are still being repeated, today. Bud in Mo. Several collateral lines for me. No direct male known, by me.

Since Joanna was a Wright, her father would be the brother of Charles A Wright, not her mother (Unless both her parents were Wrights or Sally was unmarried) You could look in the early Kentucky marriage records for a marriage between a Wright and a girl named Sally/Sarah in about 1840-45,and start in Livinston County.
