    1. [WRIGHT] Richard Wright, Sr. of Rowan Co., NC
    2. Ellie Swanger
    3. I am a descendant of Richard Wright, Sr. of Rowan Co., NC. I have a question for those who are researching or have information about Rowan Co. records. Are there land records telling HOW the people got the land? Grants? Purchase? Inherited? Where would I look? I know the Family History Centers probably has something, but past experience has indicated that NC is limited on available court and other records. Thanks, Ellie Stites Swanger

    1. [WRIGHT] Old & New Style Calendar
    2. Charles Wright
    3. I realize that everyone these days say to leave all dates the way you found them, and note where you found them, but for those who want to know the background history, I forward the following: Calendar Old and New Style. "At the time of the first settlement of New England, the English people began the new year on the 25th of March, Annunciation (or Lady) day. Any dates between January 1st and March 25th appearing on the original records of those times should have one year added. Later, a new form of designating the year was adopted; the first time it was used by the General Court of Connecticut was 'this 20th day of March, 1649-50-1650,' by our present reckoning. This style prevailed about one hundred years, and the date of all the months of the year should be carried forward, between 1600 and 1700, ten days; between 1700 and 1752, when the English government changed their dates from old style to new style, there should be eleven days added. In September, 1752, the Parliament of Great Britain made September 3d, the 14th." page 52 Title: A hand-book of practical suggestions: for the use of students in genealogy Author: Henry Reed Stiles Publisher: J. 1. [WRIGHT] Duncan Wright - Virginia ca 1887- 1920
    2. Looking for any information on Duncan Wright. He and his wife came to Virginia via Nova Scotia from Edinburgh Scotland in 1887. He was afflicted at an early age with rheumatism which made it painful for him to live in Scotland, hence his reason for coming to Virginia. In the early 1900's he lived at Sylvania, Trevilians, Virginia. I believe Trevilians is in Louisa Co but I don't know about Sylvania. I have not found any record of him in Louisa although he did own property there. He was married to Agnes MacFarland. They were divorced and Agnes lived variously with Duncan, and afterwards in Petersburg, Dinwiddie Co, Washington DC and Nova Scotia. Does anyone have access to City Directories for Louisa Co for this time period? Many thanks Bea

Thomas George "Tommy" Wright died in 1968 in Ballylisk. He used to own a small shop and farm at the corner of Mullavilly Road and Tanderagee Roads; most of which is now the Ballylisk car dealership. We know that he married Lillie Ann Ruddell, but don't have the exact date - we assume it was about 1923, probably in the Portadown area. We would love to hear anything people can tell about him, or to receive any information about this branch of the Wright family that people can share. We'd love to know more of the family story! William Wright, b.27 Jun 1827,in Franklin Co, KY & married to Martha Thomas, is as far back as I can find. Coming forward...Wm. Wright & Martha produced Samuel Leonard Wright, 1868, who married Onie Crump in Callaway Co, MO. Samuel's son was Raymond Crump Wright, b. 16 Apr 1917 in Callaway County, MO. Of course there were numerous other siblings from each family, I'm just listing the line my genealogy follows. I remember Uncle Ray and his wife, Lorraine (Crowson) quite well. They both died in Kansas City Missouri but, so far, I haven't found any male descendants from this line. Ray & Lorraine only had one daughter. There is a possibility that the father of William Wright of Kentucky, furthest one back on my line, could have been the son of John Harvey Wright & Ann Eliza Poaque. They had a son named William, correct birth date, but there is nothing I can verify. If anybody has a list of this couple's children or any other information, I'd sure love to see it. I would really appreciate any help I can get from other Wright researchers. Many thanks in advance... 2. This is a Message Board Post that is gatewayed to this mailing list. Author: rngrant Surnames: WRIGHT Classification: queries Message Board URL: http://boards.rootsweb.com/surnames.wright/16694.1/mb.ashx Message Board Post: Michael, I found the following which might help you pursue this issue. Mount Moriah, Missouri, is in Harrison County. The 1930 Census for Trail Creek, Harrison County, MO, listed John W. Wright, age 59 and born in MO, with son Walter N. Wright, age 33 and Walter's family. Trail Creek is near to Mount Moriah, MO. If you recognize this as your family, then there is a pretty good trail back from this listing. The 1920 and 1910 Censuses for Harrison County, MO, also listed John W. Wright, a widower, with just his son Walter. The 1900 Census for Harrison County, MO, listed John W. Wright, born July 1871 in Missouri, with wife Minta C. and son Walter M., born in Jan 1897 in MO, and with mother Isabelle G. Wright, born in January 1833 in OH and a widow. The 1880 Census for Harrison County, MO, listed Isabelle G. Wright, age 46 and born in OH, with among others son John W. Wright, age 8 and born in OH. The 1870 Census for Harrison County, MO, listed David M. Wright, age 39 and born in OH, with wife Isabel, age 37 and born in OH. The children's birth places indicate a move from OH to Missouri in about 1857 or 1858. The 1860 Census for Harrison County, MO, listed David M. Wright, age 30 and born in OH, with wife Isabelle G. Or J. Wright, age 27 and born in OH. A GenForum posting dated Jan 25, 2000, by Connie Guldner at http://genforum.genealogy.com/wright/messages/5499.html listed David Millard Wright as born in 1830 in Athens County, OH, married to Isabelle G. Lingrell, and died in 1872 in Harrison County, MO. The parents of David Millard Wright were listed as Elisha C. Wright and Elizabeth (McCune) Wright and they also moved to Harrison County, MO, and were listed in the 1860 Census for that county. Elisha C. Wright was listed as born in about 1805 in NY and moved with his parents to Athens County, OH, between 1823 and 1833. The father of Elisha C. Wright was listed as Elisha Wright, a circuit riding preacher for the United Brethren Church. Other researchers of the Wright brothers will probably be able to tell you whether Elisha Wright was related to the Wright brothers or whether this is a family tale that arose because your ancestors came from Ohio. Author: maisienavarro Surnames: Albert Wright Classification: queries Message Board URL: http://boards.rootsweb.com/surnames.wright/16692/mb.ashx Message Board Post: My mother's father passed away when she was 5 years old, so that would have been in 1960 as my mother was born in 1955. My grandmother (Bertha Keough-Nork) and Albert Wright were the biological parents of my mother Grace Anne Wright. The two were not married as my grandmother was still married to John William Nork and apparently he was in jail for beating her. I believe the long-term relationship between Albert and Bertha may have been an extramarital affair. I have been told that Albert had other children as well. These children should be much older than my mother as Albert was much older than my grandmother. I have also been told that my mother's siblings were not interested in having any kind of relationship with her, I assume this is because of the extramarital affair. After all this time has passed, I am hoping that all parties relize that the affair, if true, was not my mothers fault and there is no reason to not know each other. I am looking for anyone related! to Albert Wright, he may have been from France and he supposedly died from Cancer. I would like to know any kind of history available about my extended family if there are any out there. I would also like to know more about my grandfather Albert including any kind of medical history. Important Note: The author of this message may not be subscribed to this list.
