I was told by The Department of the Army that the big fire destroyed Ship Records, Troop Records, and many other kinds of Records. The fire ahppened where everything was in storage. It looks like they were filed alphabetically and by discharge date. So it doesn't mater what they were or what service they were in. "The fire which destroyed approximately 16-18 million Official Military Personnel Files was on July 12, 1973 at the Records Center in St. Louis. Personnel and Period Affected was Army Personnel discharged November 1, 1912 to January 1, 1960 [approximately 80% destroyed] and Air Force Personnel discharged September 25, 1947 to January 1, 1964 with names alphabetically after Hubbard, James E. [approximately 75% destroyed].
