Is there any way to find the name of an English ship which transported American service men from Boston Port of Embarkation to Liverpool in November of 1944 arriving there Nov 17, 1944. I know that the American ship Wakefield sailed about the same time but I have heard that there was an English ship which left Boston P of E carrying American troops. Thanks Jessie, Calif
Jessie: This is a shot in the dark, but you can try to locate the movements of the RMS Mauretania 2 which was another of the Cunard liners outfitted for troop-carrying during WW11. I had a brother who was one of the crewmembers and I remember visiting him in Liverpool about that time in 1944, while the Mauretania was in dock; I was able to go dockside because I was in service uniform. I wish I could remember the date, sorry, but she definitely was on the US-UK run in 1944 at least - strange that she is not mentioned in any ships' lists that I have seen on the internet. Somewhere she must be.
