We have lost another wonderful veteran, John C. Hencke, the bow gunner on Battlin Basic, of the famous 44th tank Bn that was attached to the 1st Cav Div. Battlin Basic was the lead tank of the 1st Cav Div 700 man Flying Column as they rolled over and through the iron gates of the infamous Santo Tomas, liberating some 3,700 civilian me, women, and children internees, and the Army nurses known as Angels of Bataan and Corregidor. John Hencke was 89 years old and died at home, in his sleep, on April 3rd, 2006. He was just seen on Oliver North's War Stories, on Fox News, this week.
