I'm hoping that someone on this list can help me to find the Army records for Peter F. Bianchetta. Peter was born August 10, 1924. I also hope to find someone who served with him. Peter served in the European theatre during World War II. He lived in Aurora, Illinois, U.S.A. when he was drafted into the Army. He was somewhere between the ages of 18-19. He was an engineering student in college and once he was drafted into the Army, had three months of basic training with an engineering battalion and after being given a number of tests he was sent to school for 6 months to learn how to defuse land mines, explosives, bridge building, etc. I can't remember where the school was located. If I'm not using the proper terminology, I apologize. After going through basic training he was sent overseas after D-day. He landed in England and was sent to a base outside of London, somewhere in the countryside. He told me that most of the time he was attached to an infantry division. At one time he was attached to an engineering division and then was with a tank division. From England he shipped out to France. He was in Metz. He was with the third army drive through Siegfreid. He was in Germany for a time until he was shipped back to the U.S. I tried to find information regarding his service on several different sites but no luck. I also know that a great many records were destroyed during a fire. Peter passed away last month and I am going to do a memorial for him which will be placed in the local museum in the town where his grandparents lived after migrating to this country from Italy. I realize this is a long shot but can anyone help me? Adrienne Inman
