    3. Hi Deb & All: Re William's death, the CWGC site gives his death as "between 30 Jan 1942 & 1 July 1942". The only reason I can think of for such a wide range of possible death dates that he was a Prisoner-of-War, and died as a POW. If he went missing and was then "missing, believed dead" would he have a death date of when he went missing? He is commemorated on the El Alamein Memorial, indicating that his body was not found. Hi John & all, There are a couple of mentions of El-Alamein at Wartime Memories site (I really like this site). http://www.wartimememories.co.uk/africa.html#el-alemein This one relates some confusion ie 'No one was where they should have been...' http://www.wartimememories.co.uk/pow/stalag4g.html This guy was in 124 Field Regt (same as mine) when he was taken POW - confirmed 7 mths after reported missing. http://www.awm.gov.au/journal/j37/alameinreview.htm This Aussie account looks like a good book. Thought I'd mention them in case anyone is interested.
