    3. Following up on a subject raised earlier re US Maritime Marine - a search of the Australian national archive database via the AWM website : http://www.awm.gov.au/database/record_search.htm, found a reference indicating that at least some US merchant ships used as troop transports were, like British ships, given a special prefix - in this specific case the C3 freighter otherwise SS Sea Ray became the USAT Sea Ray: This ship was definitely a troop ship, I was once on it. From http://naa12.naa.gov.au/scripts/ItemDetail.asp?M=0&B=3256916 *Title* Voyage report : U.S.A.T. "Sea Ray" *Barcode* 3256916 *Series number* MP729/8 <http://naa12.naa.gov.au/scripts/SeriesDetail.asp?M=0&B=MP729/8> *Series accession number* MP729/8 *Control symbol* 49/432/59 *Contents date range* 1945 - 1945 *Extent* *Location* Melbourne *Access status* Not yet examined *Reason for restriction* *Date of decision* 4 May 1998 Unfortunately this record has not been released - all are first examined for sensitive information, but it shows the U.S.A.T prefix. The National Archives also have files on specific " passengers", I found stacks of references to personal files of Italian ex POWs being repatriated back to Italy after being in camps here in Oz. Hope this is of some help, Regards, Dave
