The 25th of august 1944. A B17-G with serialnumber 42-98018, was on its way to bomb the german facillities in Peenemunde. The plane was commanded by 2nd Lt. Donald K. Gross and was part of the 750th Squadron 457th Bomb Group stationed at Glatton England. Like many other planes this ship had a nickname - Lady Kathrine. Shortly after the bomb run the plane was hit badly by FLAK in the left wing. With a large hole in the wing and the left flap partly blown away, the ship headed for Sweden. Because of the extensive damage to the plane it was decided that an emergency landing was out of the question. Therefore the crew bailed out and "Lady Katherine" made its final plunge to the ground near Ovad just outside Ljungbyhed. One man in the crew sustained minor injury during bailout.
