The 6th of August 1944, B17-G #44-6020 "Underground Farmer" from the 381st bombgroup were dispatched on, what would become, it´s last mission. Target that day was Brandenburg in Germany. The ship was piloted by Allen Webb with crew. Enroute to target "Underground Farmer" suffered a runaway prop on #2 engine and had no choice but leave the formation. They headed for Sweden but intense flak over the city of Lubeck, near the Baltic Sea, forced the crew to bailout. S/Sgt Jack Patrick was killed & the eight survivors were captured.
