    3. Hi Delilah: There are very few digitized old newspapers available in Canada so far. The Toronto Star & The Globe & Mail (Toronto) are available through most libraries. Not my library though as I live in a very small mining town in norther Ontario that was only built in 1953. I live 200 kms from the nearest city & they charge a ridiculously high annual fee for out of towners like me. Fortunately, I can share a friend's (who lives in a city) library card number sometimes for these two papers. Most importantly though, most papers printed very little in their papers in the 1940's. I guess for security reasons. They did print lists & sometimes small articles about wounded, killed, or MIA's. The articles are all very brief. That is where I found a very small one about 4 of my 5 uncles including one that was wounded on Juno Beach on D-Day. Small towns would have had more complete articles if it was about someone from that town -- unfortunately these papers are not on the web. I have found more info on the net in the last few years from some people who have written memoires, etc. Also, the History Channel here in Canada has a lot of historical war movies even if they sometimes embellish the true facts. During the war and after, adults didn't speak much about the war in our hearing for fear of frightening us. In school in the 1950's, we were not told very much about World War II other than dates & generic facts. Especially, we weren't told about things that might have been too shocking for us young kids. WWII was treated the same as any other war. However, we do make a big fuss about honouring our fallen soldiers and surviving veterans on November 11th every year. Since there are fewer and fewer veterans left now, I have noticed the ceremonies are slowly diminishing. I do think we will always respect the two minute silence at eleven am on that day forever. I truly hope so. Our children & grandchildren know next to nothing about the personal aspects of WWII though and this is sad. That is why I am trying so desparately to find out as much as I can document about my 5 Cdn uncles who served overseas. I don't want them to ever be forgotten. Thanks for letting me ramble on like this..............Sal ----- Original Message ----- From: "Delilah" <diamond6468@mindspring.com> To: <WORLDWAR2-L@rootsweb.com> Sent: Sunday, March 26, 2006 2:04 PM Subject: Re: [WORLD WAR II] Canadian Info > Would there be old newspapers in the libraries in Canada that may have > stories of the war - I would think you could find info on the units as they > wrote many stories of the miilitary at war - there may even be a book or > something about the particular unit > ----- Original Message ----- > From: "esx goring" <esx@goring1941.freeserve.co.uk> > To: <WORLDWAR2-L@rootsweb.com> > Sent: Sunday, March 26, 2006 8:48 AM > Subject: Re: [WORLD WAR II] Canadian Info > > > | Things are not much better this side of the Atlantic, Sal.
