If they don't have the records due to the fire are they still able to find what medals a person received? II was unable to get my fathers. They just sent his discharge papers which I all ready had. But I wanted to share something. I sent for my GGGrandfather's pension file and civil war records from NARA. I received aabout a 2 inch legal sized paper file. It contained everything I ever wanted to know about him and my GGGrandmother because she was fighting to get his pension after he died. I was amazed at the great lengths they went to deny her. They collected affidavits from people who knew them growing up. Birth marriage and death records for them and their children. And information about other relatives and friends. It was amazing. And it was amazing that they still had all of this information on file. I knew nothing about them when I sent for it. Barbara Rossow
