    1. Re: [WORLD WAR II] civilian deaths from bombings England? 1942

    3. The Commonwealth War Graves Commission was charged with compiling A Civilian Roll of Honour 1939-45 and this was eventually published as a set of six volumes. A full set is kept (but not for public inspection) at Westmionster Abbey, with a fresh page turned every day. The good news is that individual pages are available for purchase from the CWGC and the volumes themselves are laid out county by county (the old, pre-1960s-reorganisation counties), then by county borough, then by other districts (metropolitan boroughs, urban districts, rural districts, etc.) in alphabetical order. The surnames run in alpha-order within each borough or district. An enquiry to the CWGC should elicit the detail of the page number 'run' covering Peterboro (or the whole of Louth) and the cost of those pages and shipping. Note that the civilian roll does not give any burial details, cemetery or churchyard, etc. But it does usually give family (parents and/or spouse), age, residence, place of death. Also, anyone injured in one district and dying in another (not uncommon, as casualties sometimes had to be sent to hospitals out-of-area), will be listed under the area in which they died. My own researches over the past ten years point to quite a number of civilians who are NOT in the CWGC records. In the main, these seem to be people who died in an area where they did not live or who died of injuries some time after the later, again especially where they died out-of-area. This despite the final volume being devoted to people missed in the first five (so if you do follow my suggestion, do ask the CWGC to advise whether there are any Peterboro entries in the supplementary pages). Hope this helps.
