SOURCE: Southern Illinoisan (Nov/27/2003) Amos Mowell DONGOLA -- Amos Mowell, 81, of Parkin, Ark., formerly of Dongola, died at 5:27 p.m. Saturday, Nov. 22, 2003, in Cross Ridge Community Hospital in Wynne, Ark. He was born Jan. 25, 1922, in Bush, the son of Amos and Augusta (Slimer) Mowell. He married Sarah Lee Dillow in 1946, and she died on Jan. 23, 1970. Later he married Katherine Delores (Rider) Peterson on July 3, 1982, and she survives. Mr. Mowell worked for the railroad. He was a World War II Army Veteran. He was a member of the First Baptist Church in Russelville, Ark. He is survived by his wife Delores of Parkin, Ark.; one son, Kevin Mowell of Denver, Colo.; two daughters, Julia Mowell of Merritt Island, Fla., and Rita Bellis of Melbourne, Fla.; one brother, William Mowell of Anna; eight great-grandchildren; two step sons, Kenneth Rider of Mathies, Texas and Charles Peterson of Fort Wayne, Ind.; niece, Glenna Miller and nephew, Willard Mowell. He was preceded in death by his first wife, Sarah; his parents; his nephew, Darius Mowell on Oct. 21, 2003. Services will be at 1 p.m. Wednesday, Nov. 26, 2003, in Crain Funeral Home in Dongola, with the Rev. Paul Sadler officiating. Interment will be in the American Legion Cemetery, with military honors by VFW Post 3455 of Anna. Visitation will be from 5 to 8 p.m. Tuesday at Crain Funeral Home in Dongola. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the American Cancer Society. Crain Funeral Home of Dongola is in charge of arrangements.
