    1. [WORLDWAR2] Canadian Citizenship Act - WWII War Brides Citizenship article Oct 6, 2006

    3. A lot of you are probably wondering what I was talking about in my previous message about hoping some groups with military ties to WWII would bombard the Canadian government with petitions, emails, etc. I forgot to include the appalling newspaper article that sparked my fire (ire). This is not a single incident but has been happening a lot - not just to children born in the UK of Canadian soldiers, but of children born in other countries of Canadian soldiers. It has always been my impression that children born in any country, but with at least one parent Canadian (military or civilian) , held dual citizenship - Canadian and the country they were born in. It seems this is not the case. My apologies. Here is the article I received from the warbrides site that got my blood pressure skyrocketing. If I were younger and in better health, believe me this is a cause I would have got rolling in order to see that justice is done for the spouses and children of the men who fought the battle in WWII to protect our freedoms. Is this how they should be treated? I think not !!!!!!! I think it would be wonderful if all the Canadian veterans groups and legions and all the warbride groups banded together to right this injustice. After all, you succeeded in getting 2005 declared the Year of the Veteran, and 2006 declared the Year of the Warbride -- so the timing should make this cause for justice a piece of cake for anyone who wanted to get the ball rolling. BTW it is Thanksgiving weekend in Canada - Happy Thanksgiving!! ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ Subject: [WARBRIDES] War Brides Citizenship article Oct 6, 2006 > Vancouver Sun > B1 Front, October 6, 2006 > > Tories unfairly shutting the door on war brides' children > Ottawa's actions arbitrarily strip thousands of people of citizenship > By Daphne Bramham, Vancouver Sun > > Canada should be able to strip the citizenship of anyone, any time and the > government should not even need to tell those individuals that they may > suddenly be stateless. > > That in effect is what the Conservative government is saying with its appeal > of a Federal Court ruling in the case of Joe Taylor, the son of a Canadian > Second World War veteran and his British war bride. > > Taylor has used all of his $40,000 in savings to get this far and is asking > for donations to pay for the appeal.
