My father was in world war II. He wa in a military hospital for 16 months of treatment of typhoid and malaria. He died two years ago, his last medical record was at Veterans In Louisville, Kentucky. Do they destroy those records or would they give them to me? Does any one have any idea who I would contact ? Would the hospital release them? Or would another office be responsible for that? Marcia, The new HIPAA laws protect the medical records of the dead just as those of the living are protected. You can get your father's medical records if you can prove that you're the executor of his estate, or if you have the written permission and signature of the person who is the executor.
