There is a Yahoo Group dedicated to military manuals, and it is possible that a member there has a copy of a user manual or a parts manual or something similar. See http://groups.yahoo.com/group/MilitaryManualCollectorsClub/ for details on how to search old messages on that Group, and how to subscribe. If posting a question to that Group, it would be best to give the official designation of the searchlight, which will probably be found on a plate attached to the equipment, or stamped/engraved directly onto the metal. 3. I recently researched some of my WILLCOCKS names on 1837online (just before Ancestry made all BMD records 1837-1983 free online) and found some names that looked suspiciously like whole families dying in the same quarter, samd reference no. Turns out these individuals were on the CWGC site, which has a section for civilian casualties. If your aunt Rose is on the site, she was likely killed by a bomb. The date and place are recorded (though in one case I am aware that the bomb hit two days before the death dates listed in CWGC). So if the place stated was Dartford Hospital, there was probably also an address for the place of death, and often a residence address as well, if that was different. If you find her death registration number, the death certificate may give you more details than you have seen on CWGC. HTH Regards Martin Willcocks Taylorsville, UT, USA.

    3. I am researching a WWII civilian death who may be an Aunt of mine. I have found a relevant name listed in the CWGC site and so far the details seem to tally. The entry gives the address and I wondered if it's possible to access any records that would give me details of the circumstances of her death. She died in Dartford Hospital on 6th September 1940, and her home address was in Abbey Wood. In the past it has been mentioned in the family that Aunt Rose died in WWII, in a bombing raid, she lived somewhere in north Kent, so this sounds as if it could have been her. Any suggestions will be most welcome. Mal from W Australia

    3. Dear Mal, "Dartford Hospital" covers a multitude of sins ! There were Joyce Green Hospital West Hill Hospital The Livingstone Hospital & a number of others that were intended for mental & fever conditions, but may well have been pressed into service as "Accident & Emergency" units due to war-time pressures. If her home was in Abbey Wood, I'm surprised she wasn't admitted to Erith Hospital, but a Dartford unit could have been used as "overflow". Can you be more specific please ? 3. Hello Lister, Is there anyone who was in the 22nd Devon Regiment Royal Army Service 1941-1945? and who might have photos of the unit or remembers Quartermaster Sargeant or Captain William JONES from Wales? He was my grandfather and I would be very pleased to hear from anyone who can tell me anything they might remember about him. He was also in Aldershot with the 11th CMD from 28-12-45 till about 1947. 3. Jessie & Paul: I remember when I was in the WRNS in England, we used to tune in to a late show called "Midnight in Munich" which was put on I presume for the Allied Forces ; it was a great show for the best upbeat music of its time, with great recordings by such as Glenn Miller, Tommy Dorsey, and Benny Goodman bands, not to mention the top vocalists of that time. Maybe this info. will help to jog someone else's memory and give you more info. 3. Please help me find a photo of my mother taken early February 1945, at Santo Tomas Internment Camp in Manila, by a Signal Corps combat photographer. The picture is widely recognized -and it is unknown at the same time. It shows a nurse treating a wounded Japanese soldier, surrounded by Americans. It's the blue photo at Amazon.com - the publisher does not know where the photo came from, or how I can get a copy. http://www.amazon.com/gp/reader/0813121485/ref=sib_dp_pt/102-2722220-5635319#reader-link Early last year I exhausted the still pictures division staff of NARA. A few staffers donated a month of their personal time to search the Archive. They gave up and suggested I try "elsewhere" - and now the "elsewhere " are also exhausted, .. and any help would be greatly appreciated. Sue

    1. D-Day
    2. Bill White
    3. I have a question about the D-Day. My mom's cousin was wounded at about 9:00pm on June 6th. He was a strecher bearer with the Stormont Dundas & Glengarry Highlanders, RCIC. He died June 8th of his wounds and is buried in Beny-sur-Mer. In the regimental history it mentions the names of the men of the SD&G Highlanders who were wounded and died on June 6th. It doesn't mention Francis I. DEWAR being wounded. On June 8th it lists the names of the men who were killed & wounded. It lists that Francis DEWAR was killed along with some others. This is my question. If he was wounded June 6th would he have been evacuated to England? I have his service records along with a Field Medical Card that gives the date of June 6th as the date he was wounded. What would be more accurate the Field Medical Card or the regimental history? Thanks. Bill White

    3. Hello, List It has been suggested that I post my contact information on your list as someone may be looking for a war bride from World War II. I am the current President of the WORLD WAR II WAR BRIDES ASSOCIATION in the US. We have members from 22 countries. Our membership is made up of foreign-born wives and husbands of U.S. military personnel who married during the WWII era and since WWII. We also include their children and grandchildren as members. The WWII War Brides Association does not have an official web site. However, one of our newer members does have a great war brides web site: http://www.geocities.com/us_warbrides/ Her site contains information about our organization and a lot of other war bride-related subjects. As for my English roots, my aunt in Sydney,Australia, has traced my Aussie side back to the year 1520 in Newton St. Loe, Somerset.
