    1. Kid's Question About WW2

    3. my 11 year old nephew called and he had been told the following by a friend. On D-Day, so the story goes, the Allies (Americans?) dropped dummies behind the German positions, firecrackers attached. The Germans were to believe that the dummies were real, and shooting at them. While they were distracted, meanwhile, real troops were approaching from the rear, and took out the Germans. Any truth to this story? Thanks for the help you all are so wonderful at providing! --------------------------------- Want to be your own boss? Learn how on Yahoo! Small Business.

Goodale) | Image:96 ****************** Hello! I've gone thru this Census a little more thoroughly and have discovered that William Jesse Goodale is listed as serving in the 31st Infantry which was a branch of the Army (?). I went thru each of the 88 pages and copied the Company or Troop for each page. William Goodale is listed on page 67 and pages 67 thru 70 are listed for Company or Troop "Casuals". Could someone tell me what this means? Also under the heading Residence its lists: Lansing, California 1268 E. 49th St. I can't find a Lansing, California. I would like to send for the military records, I'm especially interested in his personal information. Are these different records than the military ones? I'm confused whether I should fill out and send SF 180 or DDform 204. Any help will be appreciated. Marie

    3. Corpsof Engineers is a Branch of Service just like Infantry, Artillery, Quartermaster Corps, Signal Corps, Ordnance, Reconnaissance, Band, Military Police etc. He was assigned to an Engineer Battalion, ergo his Branch of Service in Engineer. If the individual is transferred to an Infantry Battalion, his Branch of Service would change to Infantry. Ellis Hosbach Bethel Park, PA

    2. Hi Rick: If I understand this correctly CE does not refer to Combat Engineer, Construction Engineer, but Corps of Engineers. So the 17th Armored Engineer Bn was considered Corps of Engineers. Do I have that right? Would all engineers have the CE abbreviation? In other words if my friend had remained with the 320th ECB when he was discharged he would still have the CE abbreviation? Thank you, Adrienne
