Hi Nancee, Actually a faster way to find the info is to go to http://aad.archives.gov/aad/ You can enter the name you are searching for on that page or select one of the catagories to search. I was looking for my husband's father's info in WWII so I used that link and searched. Hope you find what you are seeking. Where on that site did you get that information? Nancee, Ca. In a message dated 10/4/2006 11:49:57 A.M. Here's a link for you: http://www.archives.gov/veterans/evetrecs/index.html I followed the instructions to get my father-in-law's 201 file. The folks at NARA are extremely helpful and fiercely protective of the soldier's file. So, if they ask you to give your right arm (loads of information that they require to verify that you are who you say you are), I would. :) Stubby Tate ewintr <ewintr@yahoo.com> wrote: Many thanks to those who responded to my request about where to find the records for my husband's father in WWII. The book was ORIGINALLY a U.S. Govt, public domain product, put out by the Govt Printing Office. What you have is a later reprint by a commercial publisher. So it's not that the USAF is STEALING! BTW there is a companion volume on "Combat Units" OTHER THAN Squadrons. It covers Groups, Wings, Air Divisions and Air Forces. I was reprinted by the same commercial press IIRC. -----Original Message----- From: worldwar2-bounces@rootsweb.com [mailto:ndenton@cogeco.ca] Sent: Tuesday, October 03, 2006 10:04 PM To: worldwar2@rootsweb.com Subject: Re: [WORLDWAR2] Combat Squadrons of the Air Force World War II Great book I have a hardcover copy here at home. P.S. Ignore my previous statement I see the online version has been released by the U.S. Airforce.themselves! https://www.airforcehistory.hq.af.mil/ They seem to have a lot of publications online. but nothing on "Stargate Command" so far.
Great book I have a hardcover copy here at home. I hope they got the publishers permission to scan it online since it's a copywritten book published in 1992. Nelson
anyone can read the book Combat Squadrons of the Air Force World War II online. go to _https://www.airforcehistory.hq.af.mil/Publications/fulltext/combat_sq_of_the_ af_wwii.pdf_ (https://www.airforcehistory.hq.af.mil/Publications/fulltext/combat_sq_of_the_af_wwii.pdf)
Hello Listers, I've just joined this list and am hoping to find someone who may have known or served under my Gran's cousin, Jack Bruce HOOK (1891 Herstmonceux Sussex England-1969 Eastbourne Sussex). During WWI he was a Corporal in the Royal Engineers and then a Lieutenant in the Royal Garrison Artillery. He married Marjorie Eleanor STREETEN at St Mary's Bryanston Square London in 1925 and reenlisted in 1940 (London Gazette Issue #34789 pub 9 Feb 1940, 18th January 1940, Lt. Jack Bruce HOOK (115578), late R.G.A. (S.R.)). He died in 1969 in Eastbourne. As I am not a direct descendant and I've not had any luck finding any, I am not able to obtain his Service Records. Additionally, any suggestions as to how to find any information about his WWII service would be greatly appreciated!!!!!! Thanks very much! Here's hoping! I have reason to believe he his my great grandfathers half brother. (my great grandfather's birth was never registered, neither was he chirstened. and his two siblings are younger) He served and was killed at Alamein during the second world war. (i believe i have found him on the CWGC website - dad's name is the same and first letter of mothers name matches the first initial of the name used by my great grandfather when he enlisted in the marines). He was born 1919/20, died 1942. His service number, i believe, is 1544911 If the one i have found is the right one, how can i go about obtaining his military information without having to pay through the nose for a professional researcher Roz --------------------------------- Try the all-new Yahoo!
