    3. I ran across some mention of couples getting married overseas during World War II who were sent to the ETO. If a couple were to get married in France while assigned to the ETO, where would their marriage records be held? Would they be in France, or did the U.S. army have some other procedure for overseas marriage records? Rhonda

    1. [WORLDWAR2] Canadian Citizenship Act - WWII War Brides Citizenship article Oct 6, 2006
    2. logan
    3. A lot of you are probably wondering what I was talking about in my previous message about hoping some groups with military ties to WWII would bombard the Canadian government with petitions, emails, etc. I forgot to include the appalling newspaper article that sparked my fire (ire). This is not a single incident but has been happening a lot - not just to children born in the UK of Canadian soldiers, but of children born in other countries of Canadian soldiers. It has always been my impression that children born in any country, but with at least one parent Canadian (military or civilian) , held dual citizenship - Canadian and the country they were born in. It seems this is not the case. My apologies. Here is the article I received from the warbrides site that got my blood pressure skyrocketing. If I were younger and in better health, believe me this is a cause I would have got rolling in order to see that justice is done for the spouses and children of the men who fought the battle in WWII to protect our freedoms. Is this how they should be treated? I think not !!!!!!! I think it would be wonderful if all the Canadian veterans groups and legions and all the warbride groups banded together to right this injustice. After all, you succeeded in getting 2005 declared the Year of the Veteran, and 2006 declared the Year of the Warbride -- so the timing should make this cause for justice a piece of cake for anyone who wanted to get the ball rolling. BTW it is Thanksgiving weekend in Canada - Happy Thanksgiving!! ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ Subject: [WARBRIDES] War Brides Citizenship article Oct 6, 2006 > Vancouver Sun > B1 Front, October 6, 2006 > > Tories unfairly shutting the door on war brides' children > Ottawa's actions arbitrarily strip thousands of people of citizenship > By Daphne Bramham, Vancouver Sun > > Canada should be able to strip the citizenship of anyone, any time and the > government should not even need to tell those individuals that they may > suddenly be stateless. > > That in effect is what the Conservative government is saying with its appeal > of a Federal Court ruling in the case of Joe Taylor, the son of a Canadian > Second World War veteran and his British war bride. > > Taylor has used all of his $40,000 in savings to get this far and is asking > for donations to pay for the appeal. 1. Re: [WORLDWAR2] (no subject)
    2. Would love to help you out on this but need you to double check several things. 1) There was no 513th Bomb Group, but there was a 513th Bomb Squadron, of the 376th Bomb Group. They didn't fly B-17's however but rather B-24 Liberators? 2) The Casablanca Coference was in January 1943 and not 1942. I would like to have crack at digging into this for you, if you will send me an e-mail of the photos of the plane and crew, perhaps that would be a good place to start. _snowfrog61@yahoo.com_ (mailto:snowfrog61@yahoo.com) Rick

    1. [WORLDWAR2] Canadian Citizenship Act re warbrides and children of Cdn military
    2. logan
    3. I am just horrified at how the Canadian government can just tell some warbrides and children of Canadian men who served in the military in World War II. Instead of individuals fighting the Canadian government on their own, and using up all their life's savings to do it, I would like to suggest that Warbride associations, Veterans groups, Legions, etc (from countries all over the world - not just from Canada) start petitions and even better, class action suits if possible, going to the Canadian Federal govt to stop these appallingly reprehensible actions. Last year was the Year of the Veteran in Canada. This year is the Year of the Warbride. What better timing for all to unite and fight the govt on these appalling rulings. There is strength in numbers...........I hope someone gets the ball rolling on this. I would if I were younger and in better health. ................................the niece of a Canadian warbride.

    1. [WORLDWAR2] Captain Eugene A Rotterman
    2. Captain Eugene A Rotterman was at Radio Luxemburg in 1945 and was transmitter engineer at Radio Munich in 1945/46. Does any one have any information concerning him after his return to the States? I realize that after all these years he may well be deceased, but if possible I would appreciate contact with his family or friends who might know what happened to him after his post war service. I am compiling the biography of my late husband, 1st Lt Lewis C Heinzman , who was a chief Studio Engineer at Radio Munich and Chief Engineer at Radio Frankfurt, I would like to be able to include some mention of what became of the officers who served with him. Thank you for any assistance. Jessie Heinzman, Calif
