    3. I, among a few others, are on a search for the Amos and Eber Wootens of Transylvania Co. NC around the late 1800's and early to mid 1900's. The ones I find do not seem to be the right age. Have a habit of copying ANYTHING about the Wootens, as it might give someone else a lead. This was found at the genealogy room of the Transylvania Co. Library. An index to the 1820 NC census, supplemented from tax lists and other resources, shows, at that time period, the following WOOTEN's in the following counties. Name County Shad Bladen Thomas Bladen Jonathan Buncomb Richard Columbus John Cumberland Peter Duplin William Duplin Amos Edgecombe Ephraim Edgecombe James Edgecombe Jesse Edgecombe Stephen Edgecombe William Edgecombe Edmund Granville Sherwood Johnston John Lenoir Lewey Lenoir Robert Lenoir Bryant New Hanover Arthur Pitt Henry Pitt Josiah Pitt Nancy Pitt William Rutherford James Sampson Thomas Sampson William Warren Polly Wilkes These were the given names of the WOOTEN family, listed by county at that time. From the 1880 Census records of Transylvania County, NC, I found one WOOTEN house. EBER WOOTEN Age 68 w/male married farmer born in SC ELISABETH " 65 w/f " K. house SC ESTHER J. Record Book A 1764- 1779 The account of James Ransom, Sheriff as Collector of Taxes, (showing) dispersements; This included one JAMES WOOTEN for: "levy overpaaid for 1767" Just an interesting little tidbit: from the: Abstracts of the Minutes of the Court of Pleas and Quarter Sessions Rowan County, NC 1775-1789 Vol. III I found, on Aug. 5, 1778, among MANY other people, a WILLIAM WOOTEN, who "neglected or refused to appear before the Justices of their respective Districts on the Day then advertised to take the Oath of Allegiance to This State" Will keep looking. Thank you.
