    1. HELP! -Pickens Co., SC Wootens
    2. Fellow ancestor detectives. After several years of searching for the birth place of my ggggrandfather, Henry Wooten, I have finally found a valuable clue. In my research in Lumpkin & Habersham (see related posting to Wooten-L this date), I found the following documents in Deed Book B, that were not included in the index. For some reason I decided not to trust the index prepared by the clerk(s) and looked at every page of the deed books just trying to pick up familiar names. On the very last page of Book B, Henry's name leaped from the page. Needless to say, I looked at every page of the other deed books but never found another Wooten deed that was not indexed. 3 March 1835, Lumpkin Co., GA Deed Book B, pg 332/3) I, Henry Wooten, of Lumpkin Co do appoint John Reece (or Rice) of Union Co., GA my lawful attorney to do and transact business for me in the selling of a parcel of land lying and being in the State of South Carolina and Pickens District containing 140 acres more or less and to make Title in the said possession in my cause, given under my hand and seal this 3rd day of March 1835. Wit: John F. Field, E.P. Hale, J.P. Recorded 7 March 1835 (Henry signed with an X) Following on the same page, but dated 2 March 1832, Robert Reece (or Rice) gave John Reece power of attorney to sale 1,047 acres in Pickens District, SC. Robert also signed with an X. I would sincerely appreciate any information on any Wootens in Pickens District from about 1780 through 1840 as well as any info on John & Robert Reece. Forrest Hale
