I've been searching for something definite since 1982, and this is the first lead I have had. An obit appeared in New Orleans "Louisiana Advertiser" newspaper: "On the 23rd inst Daniel Wootan, aged 43, late of Adams county, Mississippi", died 23 Apr 1831. An obit of Mrs. Elizabeth Wooten, 24 Oct 1879, aged 80 years, a native of Jefferson county, Mississippi, and a resident of New Orleans, for 50 years. Mentions relatives with surnames of Bertel, Young & Collins. This is definitely the mother of our family. See my web page http://www.intersurf.com/~rcollins/ " Wootan Bible Records". Could this lady have been named 'Catherine Elizabeth Miller'? The children of Daniel and 'Catherine Elizabeth' were all born in MS before 1830. War of 1812 Index to pension files: James D. Wootan,, Elizabeth, srv Catp Geor Barnes's Cor TN Militia as a St. Hardy Wootan, Daniel Wootan's father, was born ca1760, bp & parents unknown. Hardy claimed land grand on Sunflower Creek in Missisippi Territory 1804. Hardy is on Greene county tax rolls in 1812, and the only Wootan on MS 1820 census. (spelled Wootan). On the 1830 Claiborne county census, along with a Daniel Wooten and a Cullin Wooten in Claiborne county. Hardy is in Carroll county on 1840 census with a younger wife and small children. Hardy's will probated 1846 lists heirs as Judath, Calvit, Moses, & Elizabeth. Thanks for the source of the WARFA Quarterly, specific volume. I think I can get that through the FHS. I think I saw it on their microfilm once, but never got around to ordering it. Thanks again. Ruby NR Collins
