Donna, Sorry, I don't know anything on that line. Richard C. Wooton, who I referred to in my note, was an avid researcher of the Wooten and Wooton family. He organized a "Wooten and Related Family Association" whose main purpose was to fund his research. He provided members with newsletters of his research and published some of his studies in book form. From what I've seen of his work, it is well researched and well thought out. He answers questions I had, and disproves a lot of the mistakes of previously published work. The WRFA is now defunct. When Richard's health started to fail a few years ago (he died in 1996), he donated all his research papers to a special collection at the Joyner Library at East Carolina University in Greenville, NC. I've seen most of his books at the State Library of North Carolina in Raleigh. The Library of Congress has a couple of his books. The LDS has all of them on microfilm. The books appear to be home-published versions, and according to a former officer of the WRFA the only way to get a copy of his work is to go to a library and photocopy the whole thing. The books that I know of are (these are approximate titles) "Wootens of Isle of Wight Co, VA"; "John Wooten, Sr, of Pitt Co, NC and His Sons"; "William Wooten of Edgecombe Co, NC (and his descendents)"; "Wootens of York Co, VA"; and "Wootens of Surry Co, NC". I have copies of the first two books. Donna, I checked the index and there is no Silas Wooten in either book. I bet he addresses this line in that book. >> Hi Everybody, I feel pretty silly asking this, but could someone fill me in a little on the "Wootens of York Co, Virginia"? Sometimes you can't see the forest for the trees or the trees for the forest or the York County Wooten ancestors while researching in the York County Library as I did yesterday! Imagine how stupid I felt when I came home to find this message!! Ha, ha, ha! I guess I'm "out of the loop" since I am only recently discovering my Wooten heritage. I've been looking and looking, but had no idea there were Wootens here! I think I looked about everywhere else, but I never thought to look in York County! Now, to be fair to myself, I have looked time and again for every ancestor I can think of in every book I can think of and the York County library isn't very big. I've been trying to find the parents of Silas Penix Wooten - Rev. War.-enlisted in Halifax County, VA ---or could it have been NC as he was married in NC? I thought maybe he linked to the Isle of Wight Wootens. Little did I know there were Wootens in York County! So, since I spend a lot of time there, I thought I'd ask to satisfy my curiosity. Maybe I should have been looking closer to home. Anyone know the parents of Silas??? Feeling Like a Dunce in Virginia, Donna P.S. Can you tell me more about the book mentioned?
