The Church of LDS has posted the 1880 census on the web site below. On it I think I found my gr grandmother's name, but the census has a few things different from what I have. The census has the name spelled WOOTON, but it has the correct first names. I noticed that instead of John S. Wooten, they have S. John Wooton, b. KY, age 64 in 1880, both parents born in Georgia. His wife, Caroline, age 54 in 1880, is shown to have been born in Mississippi (which is what I have), but they have only WOOTON for her last name. I have Caroline's maiden name as Waters. In the census record I found, only two children were still at home in 1880, William, age 30, and Ellen, age 20. However, a George WOOTON and his wife Sephrona and two babies are shown to be living in the same dwelling, E. D. 156. (Does anyone know what E. D. stands for?). <http://www.familysearch.org> I found another discussion group for the WOOTONs, so now I wonder about my gr grandmother's maiden name -- Wooten or Wooton? If that S. John Wooton/Wooten is my gr gr grandfather, does anyone know what the S stands for? Thanks for any words of wisdom here. I realize that WOOTON may have been misspelled by the census taker, but all of the Wootons in Walker (Walker County?), Texas seemed to be listed that way.
