I have been unable to find any document with Silas Penix Wooten, except what Henry P Scalf had written about years ago. I can understand how Thomas Alfred Wooten son Silas Penix Wooten received Penix as a middle name from his grandmother's maiden name. Enclosed is the Land warrant #115, issued to Major William Moseley, February 8, 1783. America disaster called "Gates Defeat at Camden" The whole N.C. Continental line had been taken prisoners by the British at Charleston. Cornwallis, perhaps over confident, delay the invasion of N.C. until the fall of 1780, his delay gave N.C. time to organized its resistance. The General Assembly resolved that it would defend the state to the last extremity and February 7, 1780 appointed Richard Caswell, Mayor General of the entire sate Militia. [History of Greene Co. N.C. Rev. War] by James M Creech. Silas P Wooten and many others from N.C. enlisted at Halifax Co. Va. in 1780. North Carolina financed its Rev. War effort largely on credit. This was done by issuance of Certificate or vouchers on lieu of cash for everything from soldiers pay to purchasing of hay to feed military horses these vouchers were recorded in so called State Treasurer and others by the state comptroller or auditor. "SILAS P WOOTEN IS NOT ENTITTLED TO BOUNTY LAND FROM VIRGINIA, AS HIS NAME WAS NOT RETURNED AMONG THE VIRGINIA LINE WHO ACQUIRED THE RIGHT OF LAND FOR REVOLUTIONARY SERVICES. Also a letter from Archibald Borders, May 19,1849, there were 10 non-selected papers. Ref: COURT OF APPEALS DEED AND ATTORNEYS; OLD KENTUCKY ENTRIES AND DEED a document issued by the Government of qualification and privilege for his 400 acres, RECORDED FLOYD CO., KY. NOVEMBER 6,1804. as the above record from the Pension we have some knowledge that Virginia was not his home base for his services in the Rev. War. Wilkes Co., N.C. formed 1777-1778 from Surry Co and district of Washington Co., N.C. Lewis Wooten the Wilkes Co. patriarch, was of the Quaker Faith, recorded in Quaker's monthly meeting at New Garden, Guilford Co., N.C. Lewis Whooten, Wilkes Co., N.C. 1784----50 A 1786 with 346 A 1787 Lewis Wooten 1-poll and 300 A in Capt. Judd's district and by late 1787 Lewis Wooten deceased. Wilkes Co., N.C. will bk 1 pages 236 and 353 , his , wife Elizabeth sole legatee and adminstratrix of his estate. I hope this helps to understand Silas P Wooten, my fourth great grand father. Also: A summation as why Archibald Borders was issued Silas P Wooten, pension payment. Circuit Court of Lawrence Co., Ky. Recorded August 19,1844 Archibald Borders VS Silas P Wooten and Cornelius M Burgess. 50A of land in Lawrence Co. Ky. on Deep Cut Branch emptying into Levisa Fork of the Big Sandy. A true survey by Samuel Mobley, surveyor of Lawrence Co., Ky. Several more names are mention in this suit. November 4,1846.........Since he institution of this suit: The Deft. died leaving the following heirs........Thomas Alfred Wooten; S.G. Wooten; William Wooten all non-residents. Rebecca, intermarried with Berry Pack and Rhoda, intermarried with Adam Bowen. my great-great-great grandparents. All of whom are made Deft. to this bill and to the original bill. Final decree November 1847....Order dismissed The case was marked "Cont' 1848 which are missing from the record book. Maybe after receiving the pension of Silas P. Wooten, Archibald Borders had no reason to Continue the suit?
