Lorenzo Dow Wooten was the son of William J. Wooten. No one knows as yet what the J. stood for. Lorenzo Dow Wooten had a brother who was William Jasper Wooten but he was never refered to as William Jasper Wooten Junior. Another brother was Francis Marion Wooten. Wm. J. Wooten may have named these two sons after Revolutionary war heros. Francis Marion was a South Carolina Rev War hero better known as the Swamp Fox. William Jasper was another S. Carolina Rev War hero. That may explain the Jasper part of the name. You are correct in that the elder Lorenzo Dow had a son Lorenzo Dow Wooten married Mary E. Gibson. The elder married Elizabeth Wootten, daughter of John Wooten . I have them marrying October 17, 1853 in Chattoga Co., Ga.
