Connecting Wootens in Surry, Iredell, Yadkin, and Wilkes Counties (if there is a connection with the Wootens of Wilkes) is difficult. I am sure that all of them (except possibly the Wilkes group)are descended from Thomas Wooten of Surry County. There were about 15 male Wootens of child-producing age in Surry and the other Counties around 1800. There were Isaacs (2), John (at least 2), Johnathan, Thomas (maybe 3), Aaron, Caleb, Absolum, Moses, and others unknown in Wooten households in the 1790 census. My information is from WARFA Special Study #4, the Wootens of Surry County, N.C., WARFA quarterlies and some credible postings that I have seen. They are available at the LDS libraries and the National Genealogical Society. The name Riley is new to me, but I will add it to my list. I wonder if Riley made the move to Indiana with Lewis Wooton (Gunston)?
